As part of the PBS Online Film Festival, Karla Legaspy’s short film GoldStar tells the story of Iliana, a young girl who dedicates a love song to her teacher during a school talent show. When her mom and school react with homophobia and shock, Ilana struggles to figure out how to deal. She feels especially conflicted when her mother confronts her queer best friend Chela (Adelina Anthony) about the influence she thinks she’s having on her daughter.
