Jane Lynch may not have as much screen time as her younger co-stars on Glee, but she’s sure enjoying the time off.
“I don’t know that I’d love to work all the time because we moved into a new house and I have a puppy and I just got married, blah blah blah!” she said at the TCA Fox party. “It’s so great to be at home.”
The puppy is an Australian Shepherd rescue named Frances. “My first boy!” Jane said. “My house is so estrogen dominated, we needed a boy. We have two girl cats, a girl dog and now a boy dog.” And Frances is adorable — he’s on her phone’s screensaver.
Besides that, she has a 10-year-old daughter with wife Lara Embry, and she says “She can be a real wise guy. She’s really funny and one-linerish,” Jane adds. “She sounds like she’s in a 1940s movie. Then she’s supremely compassionate. Like I’ll say ‘I hate my hair,’ she’ll say ‘Don’t say that to yourself, Jane. I love your hair.”‘Then I’ll complain about something and she’ll say ‘That’s OK, everybody gets upset about that.’ I’m like, who’s the parent?”
Jane also said that being with Lara is her “first real relationship” so this upcoming Valentine’s Day will only be the third she’s ever celebrated, though she doesn’t have any plans just yet. “The nicest thing is I get Valentines every day: my wife cooks for me,” she said. But what does Lara get in return? “Oh god I hope I do something as nice for her, hope she would say! I’d love to know her answer.”
As for how she feels about the almost-lesbian romance on Glee between Brittany and Santana, Jane said she thinks it’s one-sided. “Well I don’t think Brittany’s in it,” she said. “I don’t think Brittany’s in love with Santana. I think Santana needs a girlfriend. Brittany loves her, but she’s not her girlfriend.”
Glee returns with all new episodes on January 17.
