Vote now: Who is the cutest TV couple of 2011?

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Time to look back at the past 12 months and decide who was the cutest couple of 2011! We’ve got a quick refresher for you below. Take a good, hard look at the year in lesbian ladies because we’re asking you to choose the couple that made your heart hammer hardest and your head spin the swirliest. Seriously, you might want to sit down before you start scrolling through; it was a good year for lady loves.

Once you’ve voted, tell us who you voted for and why in the comments. We’ll feature the best comments when we reveal the five cutest couples. Voting will be open until December 26th.

Marissa and Bianca, All My Children

In the waning days of ABC’s beloved soap, the Minx kingdom was born. Long-loved lesbian Bianca and formerly-straight lawyer Marissa went from mild flirting to wild kidnapping to true love. AMC may have met a sad end, but Bianca and Marissa lived happily ever after.

Maura and Jane, Rizzoli & Isles

Move over, Booth and Brennan. Step out of the way, Castle and Beckett. There’s a new crime-solving power-couple in town – and every week they catch the bad guy while making us melt into a puddle of swoon. Maura has the brains. Jane has the swagger. We have the vapors.

HG and Myka, Warehouse 13

You don’t need a time machine – or any kind of madcap technology, actually – to see the crazy chemistry between Victorian author/inventor H.G. Wells and Secret Service Agent Myka. Wells has said that in the past, “many” of her lovers were men. Many. Not all. Now let’s doing something about lovers in the present!

Emily and Maya, Pretty Little Liars

Maya was Emily’s first love. Actually, no, that’s not true. Maya was Emily’s first love who wasn’t also a homicidal maniac/ninja ghost from the future. They played footise, they held hands – and then Maya got shipped off to Juvie Camp. But now she’s back in Emily’s life, smiling like the sun and promising to stick around.

Emily and Samara, Pretty Little Liars

Ah, the age-old story of teenage love: Lesbian arranges for her closeted girlfriend to meet a mentor. Closeted girlfriend stands up mentor. Mentor sells homemade jewelry from lesbian commune at Halloween fair. Lesbian dumps closeted girlfriend and hooks up with mentor. Behold Emily and Samara!

Emily and Paige, Pretty Little Liars

Before they sang karaoke and held hands and picnic-ed together in the Forbidden Forest, they hated each other’s guts. Something about team captains and drowning? But when Paige McCullers came out – when she sobbed and said out loud, “I’m gay” – she won our hearts, and Emily’s too.

Kalinda and Lana, The Good Wife

Kalinda doesn’t always make the best decisions with women. Or men. Or baseball bats. But we can’t help but root for her and her Sapphic shenanigans. Her fling with Lana may have been short-lived, but my goodness was it ever smokin’ hot.

Diana and Christie, White Collar

For three full White Collar seasons, we heard about FBI Special Agent Diana Barrigan’s smokin’ hot girlfriend – but we’d never met her. In season four, the the couple finally had Neal (and us!) over for dinner. Not only was Christie as gorgeous as promised, she was warm and fun and whip-smart, and she and Diana were adorable together.

Callie and Arizona, Grey’s Anatomy

What a long, strange trip it has been for Callie and Arizona! From puppy love to chicken pox to shared showers to gunmen to car accidents to accidental babies to a primetime wedding. Grey‘s creator Shonda Rhimes always said she thought Calzona belonged together, and true to her word, our favorite couple of surgeons has settled into glorious familial bliss.

Brittany and Santana, Glee

Santana’s realization that she Likes Girls was one of the most moving portrayals of coming of age queer sexuality we’ve ever seen on TV. It was followed by the heart-wrenching realization that Brittany was more than a fling to her – but Brittany was committed to Artie. Finally, though, the glances and dances and emo locker hijinks resulted in Brittany and Santana realizing they belong together. (We don’t know about you, but we’ve still got Songbird on repeat.)

Mini and Franky, Skins

How refreshing it was to see a genderqueer character like Franky Fitzgerald on our TV in 2011. And how doubly refreshing it was to watch Franky’s most popular, most femme-presenting classmate, Mini, go from hating her to falling head over heels for her. Their best mate called it a “girl crush,” but Mini’s face and Mini’s actions told us it was so much more than that.

Jenny and Emma, Hand aufs Herz

Is there any word to describe Jemma other than “phenomenon”? In a few short months, Jenny and Emma gave as a richer, more authentic lesbian storyline than most American TV shows do over the course of years. They fought against each other, they fought with each other, and then they fell into each other. And oh, that pizza ballet!

Tara and Naomi, True Blood

Tara went down to New Orleans to find a new life and she found a new lover! Gorgeous cage fighter Naomi might have found out “Toni” was from Bon Temps and has some surreal friends and family hanging around, but they still had a connection that was very much centered in the real world. Hopefully Naomi will be back next season to prove she can handle Tara’s truly f—ed up supernatural life.

Sophie and Sian, Coronation Street

It’s been a rough year for lezzy Corrie fans. After a whole lot of tabloid speculation, we found out that Sacha Parkinson wasn’t extending her contract into 2012. But that didn’t stop her from acting her heart out as she and Brooke Vincent continued to portray one of the sweetest lesbian couples in the history of television. We’re never giving up hope that Sian will come back for her lady love. It’s Coronation Street: If people can come back from the dead, they can come back from out of town!

Bo and Lauren, Lost Girl

The first rule of being a Fae is: Don’t fall in love with a human. Whoops. Bo broke that rule. They protect each other, they adore each other, and finally they fell into bed with each other. No one owns Lauren, but Lauren owns our hearts.

Isabel and Cristina, Tierra de Lobos

The tomboy and the prostitute: a tale as old as time. Only it’s never been as sexy as it was on Cristina and Isabel when they stopped gazing at each other and started kissing each other. The slow burn. The shining sun. The months and months of yearning. We didn’t even need subtitles to understand what was happening.

Fiona and Charlie, Degrassi

Taking a page from The Book of Naomily, Charlie decided the best way to pick up Fiona was to talk about how cool scooters are. Scooting resulted in nearly-nude sketching and nearly-nude sketching resulted in making out. Fiona even got an actual scooter license – not a euphemism! – along the way.

Sara and Whitney, The Real L Word

Whitney and Sara are the only real life couple to make our cutest couple list. Or, well, as real as real life gets on The Real L Word. They were together. They were not together. They were together again. They were not together again. If ever there was a case of “I wish I could quit you!” (“No, I don’t!”) it was Sara and Whitney.

Remember: Tell us who you’re voting for in the comments. Let’s all try to play nice. Santa’s watching!

Voting has now ended. Check back soon for the results!
