I don’t know about you, but I’ve missed the heck out of everyone’s favorite raspy voiced detective and high-fashion medical examiner these past few months. Rizzoli & Isles is set to return Monday, Nov. 28 on TNT for a winter mini-season of five new episodes.
That means we should all prepare ourselves for a whole new round of eye sex, Totally Gratuitous, Totally Gay Touching and full-on lesbian subtext from Det. Jane Rizzoli and Dr. Maura Isles. How about a little taste of what’s to come?
So, per series creator Janet Tamaro we should expect unusual things, unusual relationships, unusual cases and an unusually high number of lesbian fans throwing things at their TVs if Maura and Tommy hook up.
If Tommy and Maura hook up, I swear I will shoot a bitch through my own abdomen Jane Rizzoli-style. I realize that these characters are ostensibly “straight.” But to put Maura and Jane’s wayward little brother together is just too much for me to take.
Unfortunately, Tamaro’s teasing of a possible Maura/Tommy relationship pretty much assures us there will be a Maura/Tommy relationship. But, you know what, I’m a professional lesbian subtext writer — so even that indiscretion will not deter me from reading between the lines to the real story. And that real story is that “the heart and soul of this show is the relationship between these women.”
Also, I could write three pages of subtext just based on this exchange:
Maura: I hate it when you hate me, so I don’t want to do anything to compromise our friendship.Jane: Good, cause I hate it when I have to hate you.
