Kelli Giddish attempts to fill Mariska Hargitay’s “SVU” shoes

Those hoping to see more of Kalinda’s roll-in-the-sack partner Sophia on The Good Wife may need to be a little patient. But those hoping to see more of the actress who plays Sophia, period, just had their wish granted. According to, Kelli Giddish has been cast alongside Danny Pino as new series regulars on Law & Order: SVU. The pair will take over for series original Chris Meloni, who left the series, and Mariska Hargitay, who is reducing her workload this season.

Besides guest starring in The Good Wife, Kelli appeared on the short-lived NBC series Chase alongside The L Word alum Rose Rollins She played a dogged U.S. Marshal who, predictably, chased people a lot. But that show was swiftly cancelled. Pino was on CBS’s Cold Case for seven seasons.

Hargitay’s deal with the studio will have her working her regular detective role in the SVU for the first 13 episodes of the season, and then in the second half she will be promoted to a supervisory position. It’s at this time Giddish’s character is expected to take over for her.

Of course, installing a new detective team will be a tricky transition for the popular crime drama. Olivia Benson and Eliot Stabler have become TV land staples, solving unspeakable crimes together for 12 seasons. Hargitay’s Benson in particular has become a gay lady favorite. We’ll never forget the short hair, honey. So, will you accept a new team taking over? Think Giddish and Pino has what it takes? And perhaps this will finally give Dick Wolf the chance to create the Law & Order spin-off we really want: Law & Order: Lady Justice – The Olivia Benson & Alex Cabot Story.
