AfterEllen.com Huddle: Summer TV

It’s summertime – get outside! Or, stay in and watch some TV. I’m OK with that because I will be doing a lot of it. We all will. Here’s why.

And this, too.

Obviously, we have a lot of dates coming up – some more important than others. So, group, what show are you dying to see this summer?

Heather Hogan: When Karman Kregloe sent me the screener for Pretty Little Liars‘ second season premiere, I think the email I sent back said, “WHAT?! ZOMG! I’M TWIRLING AND SPINNING AND SQUEALING AND SQUEAKING AND SQUAWKING AND THANK YOU A MILLION RED M&MS!!!” And then I sent another email that said, “Er, I mean, thank you. In a professional way.”

I watch so much TV for recapping that it’s not easy to get stupidly excited about watching TV for recapping, but I am so into Pretty Little Liars it’s embarrassing. Or, well, it would be embarrassing if you guys weren’t also into Pretty Little Liars to a swoony degree. Mischief, murder, mayhem, robots, vampires, werewolves, zombies, lezzers, lovers, Lies, Lies, Lies. Bring it, ABC Family. Bring it real good.

Grace Chu: I’m looking forward to The Real L Word Season 2, but only because of bad machine’s recaps.

Karman Kregloe: Not even the recent addition of Andy Samberg as the “host” can tear me away from the television for Shark Week on Discovery, which kicks off Sunday, July 31. I’m already chumming my living room in anticipation! This year Discovery offers a “video challenge,” inviting viewers to create and send their own video tributes to Shark Week. The top two videos will air on television. I plan to send the one my wife made.

Courtney Gillette: Summer TV premieres still kind of baffle me (aren’t I supposed to be at the beach? or at an outdoor concert? or stalking an ice cream truck?), but if New York again becomes the unbearable hot box it was last summer, you better believe I’ll be holed up in my bedroom fort, with AC, popsicles, and, yes, television. That said, of all the shows on the upcoming roster, the one that best piqued my interest is The Nine Lives of Chloe King. And really, it’s the TVGuide.com copy that got me: “When Chloe (Skyler Samuels) begins to develop heightened abilities, she learns that she’s part of an ancient race called Mai, the offspring of the Egyptian cat goddess Bastet. Typical teen stuff.” Typical?! She’s part cat goddess, y’all! That’s not typical, that is awesome.

Bridget McManus: HBO’s True Blood! I’m freaking out and can’t wait for Season 4 to start on June 26. Janina Gavankar (The L Word) joins the cast as Luna, a public school teacher and shapely shape-shifter. This season there will be witches, telepaths, fairies, werewolves and vampires galore! Oh, and there will a few humans sprinkled in there somewhere (mainly just for sustenance).

I love you, Sookie!

Mia Jones: There are no shows I’m as excited to see premiering as much as I am psyched to finally have Wonderfalls and Freaks and Geeks in my Netflix cue.

The Linster: Oh, Weeds. You keep coming back and I just open the door and let you in, only to be disappointed that you haven’t changed. I will greet you one last time, hoping beyond hope that you will make me happy as you did in our early years together. But I’m scared. Please be good to me. I want our last memories to be happy ones.

Lesley Goldberg: The Big C. Dark comedy with Laura Linney and Cynthia Nixon.

Trish Bendix: I am also a Trubie and a PLL fanatic, but I am also wondering what will be happening with Adam, Fiona, Holly J and the gang on Degrassi when it returns on July 18. You are never too old for Degrassi – right?

OK, what show are you dying to stay in for?
