“The Good Wife” takes on America

As if we needed another reason to watch The Good Wife, the show just added one of our favorite women, America Ferrera.

The Ugly Betty alum starts a three-episode arc in February, in which she plays Natalie, a grad student that attracts romantic interest from Eli (Alan Cumming).

I think I’ve seen Cumming in drag once too often to take him seriously as a ladies’ man, but perhaps this will give us a chance to see another side to Eli – a most unlikable character. And seeing Ferrara interact with him will doubtless be a treat.

Hard to believe, but this is Ferrera’s first TV gig since Betty ended. Um, casting directors? What’s up with that?

Another fun bit of Good Wife casting comes in the form of the actor formerly known as Father of Festivus Frank Costanza, Jerry Stiller. Stiller plays a judge who tends to fall asleep mid-trial, much to the frustration of Diane (Christine Baranski).

For now, Stiller appears in only one episode but guest judges like Ana Gasteyer, Kate Burton and Joanna Gleason tend to return, so perhaps he will have a recurring role. Of course, all I really want is to hear him yell, “Serenity now!”

The Good Wife just keeps getting better – and it has been one of the best shows on television since its first episode. But just in case you aren’t watching, here is one of reasons we set our DVRs every week: Archie Panjabi, aka Kalinda Sharma.

You’re welcome.

Are you excited about America Ferrera’s arc on The Good Wife? Do you think Eli really has a heart?
