Films and TV shows with lesbian storylines are up for PGA and WGA Awards

As Hollywood continues to make its way through awards season — which culminates Feb. 27 with the Academy Awards — other industry heavyweights continue to roll out their nominations: the latest being the writers and producers guilds, which were announced Tuesday and feature several notable LGBT favorites.

The Writers Guild of America recognized both Black Swan and Lisa Cholodenko‘s The Kids Are All Right with nominations for original screenplay. Their competition in the coveted category includes The Fighter, Inception and Nicole Holofcener‘s Please Give.

The Producers Guild of America also recognized both Black Swan and The Kids Are All Right with best picture mentions; competition there includes 127 Hours, Inception, The Fighter, The King’s Speech, The Social Network, The Town, Toy Story 3 and True Grit.

Featuring a much-publicized smooch between leads Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor, I Love You Phillip Morris picked up a WGA nom for adapted screenplay, where it will go up against the James Franco starrer 127 Hours critical favorite The Social Network, Ben Affleck’s The Town and the Coen brothers’ True Grit.

The PGA drama series contenders are Breaking Bad Dexter Lost, Mad Men (last year’s winner) and Alan Ball’s very gay True Blood.

The PGA also recognized Ryan Murphy‘s Glee, Modern Family 30 Rock (last year’s winner), Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Office in the comedy category.

Boardwalk Empire landed a WGA nomination for best new series, where its competition includes FX’s Timothy Olyphant starrer Justified TNT’s Men of a Certain Age (which has a lesbian bit part played by Emily Rios), HBO’s New Orleans-set Treme and AMC’s zombie fest The Walking Dead.
