Paula Patton joins Mariska Hargitay as the new ADA on “Law & Order: SVU”

Say what you will about the Law & Order franchise, but it has impeccable taste in ADAs. And now we can add Paula Patton to that most illustrious and lustrous (seriously — so much shiny hair) list.

The Precious star will join Law & Order: Speacial Victims Unit in a multi-episode arc. Her character, Mikka Von, will debut in the fifth episode of the new season after its premieres this September. Her character is called “charming and savvy.” Yep, sounds about right.

It was Paula’s performance as lesbian teacher Ms. Rain in Precious that caught Law & Order: SVU executive producer Neal Baer’s eye.

When I saw Paula Patton give that terrific performance in the multi-Oscar nominated Precious, I knew she’d be perfect for SVU’s new Assistant District Attorney — she’s funny, warm and witty with a penchant for justice. And it happened. She’s starting in episode five. How cool is that?

Also cool? Paula will be the first African-American actress, or minority of any kind, to fill the role on the long-running show which is about to enter its 11th season. So, what do you think. Is Paula a worthy successor to Stephanie March’s beloved Alexandra Cabot.

And, most important of all, what kind of chemistry will Mikka Von and Olivia Benson have? I can’t wait for her to be all charming and savvy while standing next to Mariska Hargitay. Let the femslash commence.
