Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. (March 23, 2007)

THE RICH LESBIAN LIFE OF CYNTHIA WATROS

Former Lost castaway Cynthia Watros has been cast in the CBS pilot The Rich Inner Life of Penelope Cloud as Eve, the lesbian roommate and ex-lover of the lead character, played by Marisa Tomei. As I mentioned previously, Eve is a choreographer who once had a fling with Tomei’s Penelope and is currently sleeping with her lead dancer (who is not being played by Michelle Rodriguez).

Speaking of Lost, the ABC drama’s long-rumored gay character will make his or her debut on next week’s episode, “Expose.” No word yet on whether the gay character is a man or a woman, but if the results of this poll are any indication, we’re not likely to see Elizabeth Mitchell and Evangeline Lilly recreating that chain-link fence scene from Gia anytime soon.

A LESBIAN IN A HORROR MOVIE? THAT’S ABOUT AS ORIGINAL AS CASTING A DRAMA QUEEN ON AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL.

Good news for Fergie fans: Stacy Ferguson, aka Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, has a small role as a lesbian in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino-Robert Rodriguez horror film Grindhouse. But given how the lesbian character fared in the last film they did together (short version: she was kidnapped, tortured and mutilated), this may actually be better news for anti-Fergie fans.

Grindhouse, which opens April 6th, is really two horror movies played back-to-back with fake trailers in between.

WHEN YOU CARE ENOUGH TO SEND THE VERY BEST LESBIAN

Everyone’s favorite lesbian comedian will be launching a line of American Greetings cards this summer. In a statement about this, Ellen said, “I look at having a line of cards as another extension of being a host; helping you wish your loved ones well, piggybacking on your birthday greetings. I like to be up in the middle of everything and doing it this way is much easier than crashing parties.”

The collection will include 32 specially designed cards featuring illustrations of the talk-show host cracking wise about birthdays, anniversaries and holidays; offering words of friendship and encouragement; expressing get-well wishes and thanks.

It will also include a new “For Those Very Special Gay Moments” collection designed for gay and lesbian consumers, with cards that celebrate the happy moments of gay life, such as coming out:

And the not-so-happy moments, such as getting dumped:

American Greetings stock rose $.08 on the news.

Coming next month: Rosie O’Donnell announces her own line of tube socks!

JACKIE AND REBECCA GET PHYSICAL

It’s the end of Jackie and Mimi on the season two premiere of Work Out, but the beginning of Jackie and … Rebecca? Jackie was bound to hook up with one of her trainers, but Rebecca? Really?

If you’re going to go for the straight girls, Jackie, at least pick Erika or Zen. As long as Erika isn’t allowed to talk.

OK, I’LL WATCH THE SHOW, BUT I STILL DON’T WANT TO DO ANYTHING FOR MYSELF

The Bay Area Reporter has a great new interview with Jackie Taylor, the star of the DIY (do it yourself) Network’s home improvement show Grounds for Improvement and, apparently, also an out lesbian.

Taylor, whose partner is out director Esther Ritter (HGTV’s Gardening by the Yard), spent several years being closeted at work and finally came out when she “realized that people really didn’t give a s—.” She continued: “It just feels so much better. It’s just so much more freeing to say that this is me and this is who I am. When I call [the] network and say I’m being interviewed by the B.A.R. and Jane & Jane and they are like, ‘Cool, that’s great!’ I’m like, ‘You don’t mind?’ ‘No that’s fine and awesome! We love you!'”

In addition to co-hosting the DIY show, Taylor just released a coffee-table book on landscaping and is about to launch her own broadband network on May 1 called Oodle Box TV, which will show a series of how-to videos from a variety of do-it-yourselfers including “tattooed lesbian biker Jackie Nunes’s how-to videos for fixing up motorcycles.” Now that’s my kind of broadband channel!

THEY DON’T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THEIR BAD REPUTATIONS

Are Carmen Electra and Joan Jett going public with their relationship at Dinah Shore later this month? That’s what Star Magazine is saying (so you know it must be true!). An unnamed source tells the magazine they’ve been dating since before Thanksgiving, shortly after Carmen starred in Joan’s video for her song “A.C.D.C.,” and that “Carmen and Joan are planning on enjoying all the fun the [Dinah Shore] weekend has to offer, and they’ll be making a very clear statement to the world by attending together.”

Carmen’s rep is already denying the Star report, telling US Magazine, “They are just friends.” Frankly, I don’t care much one way or the other, though it is amusing to see how desperate the media is to find a secret lesbian romance to write about.

SHE SAID DINAH

There’s a new episode of She Said What? up now with guest rock band Jayne Doe. There won’t be a new episode posted next week, but we’re going to be filming several more episodes of She Said What? on Friday, March 30, at Dinah Shore in Palm Springs, with guests that include Jane Lynch (The L Word, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Best in Show), Amanda Bearse (The Big Gay Sketch Show, Married With Children), Suzanne Westenhoefer, Nancylee Myatt and Maeve Quinlan (South of Nowhere) – and you! Go to our Dinah page for all the details on when and where to show up for the heckling taping.

Then don’t forget to come to our party later that night, where you’ll be asked to do shots and act out the “racy” motel room scene between Spencer and Ashley from South of Nowhere. BYOHB! (Bring your own hairbrush.)

That’s it for this week! Check back next Friday for another edition of Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever.
