TNT’s women of summer

Just as the broadcast TV networks are winding up their series for the year, cable networks are gearing up to start new seasons. And one of the first to announce its summer season lineup is TNT. I’m happy to report that strong women are everywhere.

First up is the return of Saving Grace May 24 for its fourth and final season.

I watched Grace faithfully the first two seasons, but by Season 3, I kind of lost track of the plot. The “lesbian” episode pretty much turned me off for the rest of the season and I was sad, but not heartbroken, when TNT announced the show’s cancellation.

I think, though, that I’ll tune in for Season 4, if only because of my love for Holly Hunter (a definite candidate for the Hotties over 40 list). Maybe this year, Grace and Rhetta finally will make out.

Another Hot List contender, Jada Pinkett Smith, returns June 22 in Hawthorne.

I’m not gonna’ lie to you – I am not a Hawthorne fan. But I fully support all of you who are. And to show you how much, I present Jada in a tank top. On a treadmill. Yes, really.

Kyra Sedgwick‘s hit, The Closer, opens its sixth season on July 12. According to promo materials, the theme of the season is “Attraction,” which I hope includes attraction of the lesbian kind, even if it doesn’t include happily married Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson.

All we really know for sure, though, is that Mary McDonnell will return for an arc as Captain Sharon Raydor to make Brenda’s life miserable for a while.

New on the schedule is Rizzoli & Isles, starring Angie Harmon as Jane Rizzoli, a detective who solves cases with medical examiner Maura Isles, played by Sasha Alexander.

The series is based on the popular Rizzoli/Isles mysteries by Tess Gerritsen. Lorraine Bracco is on board for a recurring role as Jane’s mother.

Here’s a preview:

Looks like this is sort of Law & Order meets CSI, only with women as the main characters. In other words, set your DVR now. Rizzoli & Isles premiers July 12 at 10 p.m. ET.

Some male-centered series are on deck, too: a new series with Jason Lee, Memphis Beat, and returning shows Leverage, Dark Blue, Men of a Certain Age and Southland. You can find out more about those at the TNT website.

What TNT shows are you most looking forward to? Will you tune in for the debut of Rizzoli & Isles?
