Upgrade to “Chuck” version 2.0 with a marathon today

What’s the first thing you think of when I say Chuck? a) Ground beef b) Charlie Brown c) Why is it not preceded by “I’m” and followed by “Bass?” d) Agent! Sarah! Walker!

If your answers are anything but d) then might I suggest you tune in today starting at 5 p.m. for the eight-hour Chuck marathon on SyFy network. Last spring the action-comedy about a hapless nerd Chuck (Zachary Levi) who accidentally becomes a super spy and is protected by Agent Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) defied the odds thanks to a strong online fan campaign and was picked up for a full third season.

Show producers Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak picked eight of their favorite episodes from Season Two for the marathon including “Chuck vs. The First Date,” “Chuck vs. The Santa Claus” and the premiere and finale for the marathon primer. After watching, not only will you associate Chuck with something new but it might banish all thoughts of Keanu’s version of “I know kung fun.”

The series then returns Sunday, Jan. 10 for a two-hour premiere starting at 9 p.m. on NBC. The show will then settle into its normal timeslot of 8 p.m. Monday the next day. What can you expect from the new and upgraded Chuck “No More Mr. Nice Spy” Bartowski?

[Warning: Spoilers ahead so go nerd herd yourself elsewhere if you don’t want to know!] Chuck will embrace his new Version 2.0 superspy skills and expect more setbacks in the Chuck-Sarah love connection. And judging by that first promo image it also looks like Sarah and Chuck might have stumbled onto the set of Survivor. But I might be wrong on that.

The season is also jam packed with special guest stars including Angie Harmon, Superman ReturnsBrandon Routh, Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk, Robert Patrick, Armand Assante and pro wrestler Steve Austin. Brandon and Kristin are expected to serve as romantic interests for Sarah and Chuck, respectively.

So, are you excited? You’re breaking into Jeffster air guitar riffs as we speak, aren’t you? Don’t worry, I won’t tell.
