Mindy Kaling will show us “The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie”

Breaking news: Mindy Kaling‘s plan for global domination continues. Already this year The Office writer/actor/co-exec producer inked a two-year deal with NBC to write and star in her own comedy; she wrote, directed, danced and auto-tuned the cultural phenomenon Subtle Sexuality; and this week we found out that she’s co-writing her first silver screen script: The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie.

Heads up, Tina Fey! I feel a Liz Lemon/Kelly Kapoor fisticuffs coming on for the title of America’s Cleverest Comedic Sweetheart!

The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie will follow Lizzie Gillespie as she dates her way through a barrel of losers. Just when she’s about to reach the bottom, she finds herself pursed by – I’m just going to quote Variety here – “the hottest guy ever.”

Seriously, Tina Fey, she’s coming for your cartoon pilot boyfriend.

Kaling has proven that she can balance humor and romance. She wrote some of the sweetest, most hilarious episodes of The Office, including three of my personal favorites: “Hot Girl,” “TheDundies,” and Pam and Jim’s wedding, “Niagra.” Plus, half of Kaling’s Tweets have the makings of an excellent rom-com:

Kaling will co-star in The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie, but she won’t play the title character – which is fine by me. There’s no way Lizzie Gillespie’s self-esteem could be lower than Kelly Kapoor’s.

Are you stoked about Kaling’s big screen writing debut? Liz Lemon vs. Kelly Kapoor: who will reign victorious?
