TV Alert: “30 Rock” and Tina Fey return tonight

Break out your night cheese and party like it’s sandwich day. 30 Rock is back, baby. The threepeat best comedy Emmy winner returns for its fourth season tonight on NBC. I’d say that’s reason to celebrate, wouldn’t you, Tina?

Now, in my book anything that brings Tina Fey into my living room on a regular basis is reason enough to rejoice. But since its debut in 2006, the critically adored, ratings-challenged show has been one of the most consistently funny half hours on TV.

But, look, you don’t have to take my word for it. Critics across America are singing the praises of the new season.

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

“There’s virtually no good excuse left to be, inexplicably, off the 30 Rock bandwagon … it’s not too early or overblown to say that 30 Rock will get recognition as one of the all-time greats when it’s in the books.”

From Newsday:

“This was the best comedy on TV last season. So far, a mere one episode in, Rock remains the best comedy — though probably dead-even with Curb Your Enthusiasm. There’s no shame in this two-way tie.” (The premiere received an A+)

From me:

“What, you don’t watch 30 Rock? That’s a dealbreaker, ladies!”

What can we expect from the premiere? Well, more topical humor and more outright lunacy in the form of corporate cost cutting, Jenna singing country music and a page strike. Also Jack Donaghy says this: “We’ll trick those racecar-loving wide loads into watching your lefty, homoerotic propaganda hour yet.”

Seriously, you need to watch this show.

The fourth season will include guest appearances by out Broadway hottie Cheyenne Jackson, former Daily Show correspondent Nate Corddry, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams and the return of Arrested Development star Will Arnett.
