Television keeps making me want to get arrested. I mean, how else am I going to meet my favorite fictional lady cop? The latest potential addition to that police roster is Saffron Burrows. The out bisexual actress is in talks with Law & Order: Criminal Intent to join the cast.
Saffron would replace the departing Julianne Nicholson who has been on the series for three seasons first as Chris Noth‘s partner and more recently teamed with Jeff Goldblum. Julianne joined the show in 2006 in the sixth season as Det. Megan Wheeler. Her introduction to the show, coincidentally, included some unfazed flirting with a lesbian mechanic.
There are conflicting reports over whether Saffron would be partnered with Goldblum or Noth (my guess is Goldblum since Noth is soon to star in the freshman series The Good Wife with Julianna Margulies). The English actress is an indie film veteran and has starred in the television dramas Boston Legal and the short-lived My Own Worst Enemy with Christian Slater.
Saffron has been romantically linked in the past to fellow English actress Fiona Shaw from the Harry Potter films and talked openly about her preference for women. As she told Tatler magazine in 2000, “I’d say that I prefer the company of women. … On one level, privacy is important but, on another level, I have no desire to deny certain things.”
