Happy Friday, ladies! This week is an automatic win thanks the L Word and the folks over at Showtime. In case you were stuck in a lesbian black hole these past few days and have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m here report the L Word is coming BACK. AE wrote a few articles on its return HERE and HERE, and I’ll share a few details about the sequel after the jump.
In other lez news, a number of LGBTQ actresses scored Emmy nominations on Thursday and Ellen Page snagged herself a new girlfriend. Lez get to it!
The L Word Is Back!
Props to Kate Moennig, Leisha Hailey, and Jennifer Beals for keeping this AMAZING news under wraps! Remember in May when fans were led to believe this whole thing was just a cast reunion? Talk about a major and fantastic plot twist!
According to Deadline, Kate, Leisha, and Jennifer will executive produce the show and they’ll also appear on the series. Although the ladies won’t be the focus of the sequel, their characters will act as a “bridge” to introduce the new characters. Characters from the original series are also expected to reappear, but the list of names has yet to be confirmed.
You guys, my mind is running wild with all the possibilities. I need this to happen now!
As for Ilene Chaiken, she’ll also come on as an executive producer, despite having minimal involvement due to her obligations as an executive producer on Empire. Given Chaiken’s time constraints, Showtime is looking for a writer and producer with ties to the lesbian community to get involved in the show.
Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President and CEO, said of the sequel news:
Couldn’t have said it better myself! AE will definitely keep you posted as this all unfolds… and of course, there will be recaps.
