Morning Brew – Sarah Paulson might star in all-female “Ocean’s Ocho”

Good morning! Happy Friday!

Sarah Paulson is possibly joining the all-new, all-female Ocean’s Ocho. Other cast members include Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina. Here for it! But if not one of their characters is queer in any way, I may have to write a think piece and I don’t want to have to do that.

On diversity in comics with a bizarre choice of words:

To use my previous example, I might be able to imagine, broadly, what being a lesbian feels like, but I don’t have any idea about the myriad obstacles and bliss in a dyke’s daily life. It would be all too easy for me to think my lesbian character is all about breasts and labia and coming out, and not how she thinks about getting the rent together every month, or whether a vegan diet is a good idea, or if she should make a play for the cute and possibly straight woman in accounting. She should be a fully-rounded human being, not just a contrast to the default assumption.

Remembering Austin’s long-gone lesbian and gay bars.

Fr. José García, a pastor of San Bartolomé parish in the Valencian town of Onda, blessed a lesbian couple on their wedding day, but after being investigated by the Catholic Church, is apologizing for having been a part of the ceremony. He “has agreed that he made a serious error of judgment in allowing the ceremony to proceed, although at the time, he believed that he was acting in the best way to offer pastoral care to his congregation but he has undertaken not to offer a similar service to any same-sex couple in the future.”
