Marvel’s “Runaways” TV show is finally happening

For years we’ve been waiting for the queer-inclusive on-screen adaptation of Marvel’s Runaways and it looks like it’s finally happening. Per Deadline, Hulu has ordered a pilot plus “additional scripts” from Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

Josh, who also created The O.C., said in a statement that they are longtime fans of the series created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona and he “couldn’t be more excited” to bring the characters to life. These characters include Karolina Dean, an out lesbian who has a thing for fellow Runaway, Nico.

If you’re not familiar with the comic series, Runaways follows a group of misfit teens who find out their parents are supervillains and join forces to fight them together because the Runaways themselves have superpowers, of course.

In 2006, Marvel had plans to adapt the series into a feature film but apparently scrapped it after bringing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Avengers, Jessica Jones, Daredevil and other titles to the big and small screens. But with the new Hulu series, we could finally be getting the quality, queer series we’ve been looking for.
