Morning Brew – “Fun Home” is leaving Broadway this fall

Good morning!

If you haven’t yet seen Fun Home, I have some good and bad news. The super lesbian musical is leaving Broadway in September (September 10, specifically), but it will be going on tour, kicking off in Cleveland in October. The Hollywood Reporter notes “stops are planned in more than 40 cities, including Chicago, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles.”

The Neon Demon opens this weekend, and director Nicolas Winding tells Out about the sex scene between Elle Fanning and Jena Malone:

I certainly had no intention of depicting anyone negatively or positively. I’m more interested in the “grey area” because people are both good and bad. Human nature is very conflicted. The Ruby (Jena Malone) character, for example, is very fragile and fears rejection, and at the same time is all-consumed with a need for beauty, power and control. The necrophilia scene then, is not sapphic or even about sex, but it’s about Ruby’s eternal quest to get what she most longs for. I find women so much more interesting than men, which is why I chose to explore these themes using women as the focus of the film. The boyfriends then, become the “girlfriends” in the traditional storytelling sense.

Variety talked with Marlene King about Season 7 of Pretty Little Liars. On Paige’s return affecting Emily’s storyline:

It affects it in a very complex and dynamic way. It’s going to be a lot of fun to watch it play out. As all of these great cast members return to Season 7, we’re having a lot of fun – why are they back? Are they honest? Are they suspicious? Is it mystery-related? Is it romance-related? We don’t want to give away those stories, and we just want to let them play out for fans, as we go.
