“Orphan Black” recap (4.06): Worth the Salt

Kendall is taken to the comic book store, and Mrs. S comes to meet her, confused. Kendall calls Sarah and the gang her “other daughters” and says that Cosima has some things she’d like to discuss. But first, Kendall tells Mrs. S that she has leukemia. Mrs. s gives her the look that she had been putting off getting all this time, and Kendall tries to comfort her by having Cosima explain why it’s not the worst news; the cancer cells will help them isolate Leda vs. Castor in Kendall’s chimera DNA.

Science!

When Sarah explains this to Susan, she compliments Cosima’s beautiful brain, and Sarah is proud and won’t let Susan take any credit for that. It’s really a wonderful moment. So brief, so telling.

Despite Ira’s protest, Susan is totally fine with taking only the Leda genome. Her only conditions are that she gets to be there when they extract the DNA from Kendall and that she gets a copy of Cosima’s research so far. His fragile male ego shattered, Ira drops a snide comment about Beth that makes Sarah realize that Beth knew about Susan and Evie. But Susan says that Beth’s mistake was thinking Susan was the enemy.

Flash back to the bathroom, where Beth has a gun trained on Susan. But Susan promises that she would be the last person who wanted to harm any of the clones, her greatest achievement. One really interesting thing I don’t think we know about yet but I’m sure we’ll find out is that Susan, after mentioning how nice Beth’s mother Ruth was, apologizes for Beth’s father getting through the screening process. Susan begs for her life, saying Beth’s sestras will not survive if Susan dies.

Well that does change things a bit, doesn’t it.

So Beth makes Susan close her eyes, then disappears.

Sarah and Mrs. S rewatch the tape of Beth, still finding gaps between when she left Susan and when she jumped in front of the train. Mrs. S is a little salty about Sarah and Cosima going behind her back, but ultimately will support her daughter-sestras the best she can.

In the lab, Cosima uploads her research to a Bright Born hard drive, lamenting the fact that she’s just handing over something that cost her two relationships and one missing soulmate. Scott tries to comfort her by saying that Shay was barely a relationship, more like a super sexy rebound, and it makes Cosima smile so I’ll take it.

#SAVECOSIMA

Scott assures Cosima that they would have cracked the cure if they had more time.

Ira is moping because Susan made a decision that proves neither the whole world nor her world revolves around him, but Susan pats him on the head and promises she’ll still find a way to save his life.

Susan calls Art to tell her about the new Beth-shaped puzzle pieces she got, but Art points out they’re still missing some; Beth might not have shot Susan, but she still came home that night with literal blood on her hands.

Art tells Sarah, hilariously, that she thinks Vidal Sassoon is after her (more like Vidal Assassoon amiright?) so Sarah says she’ll send Felix in to try to calm her down like he’s done before. Art warns Sarah to be careful about the path she’s going down, because this very same path led Beth to her death. But Beth kept all of her pain from her sestras. Sarah will drag pretty much anyone into Clone Club if she thinks it’ll help. (Except Adele.)

Felix agrees to talk to Krystal because Adele went home so he might as well make himself useful. Mrs. S promises him that once things calm down, Adele can come back, and he heads to Art’s.
