“Orphan Black” recap (4.04): Control

Back at the Hendrix household, Helena is doing arts and crafts like the precious angel assassin she is, and when Donnie sees she’s making a collage about babies, he has a talk with her about how it sometimes upsets Alison that she can’t have her own children. He says that sometimes we have to tiptoe around subjects so as not to upset Alison, and Helena looks positively heartbroken for her sestra.

HER LITTLE FACE.

Sarah goes to Dizzy to talk to MK, but she’s only skyping in again. Sarah tells her Professor Duncan is still alive and asks if she can trace the message Rachel sent, and also to meet up with MK in person. MK reluctantly agrees, because she desperately wants the info.

Alison gives Donnie and Felix all the research she did on Lifespring Fertility and sends them in as a gay couple looking to have a baby. Alison can’t go in herself because Beth has been in there, and you can tell it kills her a little not to be able to go in and control the situation.

Donnie immediately starts flicking his wrist, horrifying Felix. While the receptionist gets some of their paperwork, Felix schools Donnie and says that you don’t have to “act” gay to be gay so to cut the shit and be normal before he gives them away. Alison is watching from the car and, though no one could hear her, had similar things to say about his absurd acting.

Of course she has/brought binoculars.

Donnie calls Alison from the…masturbation room, I guess. I don’t know what else to call it. He tells her that he saw their friend Portia, who is pregnant, which surprises Alison since she had fertility issues around the same time Alison found out about hers. Donnie wants Alison to dirty talk for him since all they gave him was gay porn, and she turns on an Italian Flight Attendant situation, and it’s all very confusing. Those two are so endearingly strange.

MK talks to her picture of Niki while she tracks Professor Duncan, calling her a ghost, not unlike herself, and during this trace finds Ferdinand, the one face she hadn’t been able to put to a name yet.

Sarah goes to Beth’s apartment to meet up with MK, but MK calls and is mid panic attack. She didn’t know Sarah was mixed up with Topside, and can’t trust her anymore. Not after what they did. She’s not more specific than that before hanging up.

While the boys are inside, Alison “runs into” Portia in the parking garage, faking a breakdown and talking to Portia about fertility treatments, asking if she did anything special to finally get pregnant. She really turns it on, saying that as much as she loves Oscar and Gemma, she wants her own baby. And bless her heart but she’s not THAT good of an actor, so I have a feeling there’s some truth to what Alison is saying.

Don’t let Felix hear you talking like this, Alison. Blood doesn’t always a family make.

Sensing her desperation, Portia tells her to see Dr. Bosch and ask for the Bright Born treatments. Sounds legit.

So Alison gets the message to Donnie and Felix, who claim to have heard about Bright Born from a very satisfied customer. Bosch is surprised but gives them Bright Born information packages anyway.
