Happy as a Wanheda can be on the brink of war, Clarke goes back to her room, where he finds a chained up Murphy. She starts to untie him when Titus appears, gun in hand. She says she’s leaving, that he doesn’t have to do this, but Titus knows that as long as Clarke lives, Lexa will be making decisions with her in mind. In his head, this is the only option. Clarke, hands up, reminds him that HE’LL be the dead one if Lexa finds out he harmed a single hair in that glorious mane of hers, but that’s why Titus is using a Skaikru weapon, so he can blame it on Murphy.
Titus starts to shoot at Clarke, and Lexa runs in to make sure Clarke is okay. Despite the fact that she has people who would walk through fire for her, guards up to the gills, despite the fact that she wasn’t wearing her armor, despite the fact that as far as she knew Clarke was already gone, Lexa runs in to make sure Clarke is okay. And is hit by a bullet.
She falls, and Clarke panics. She has Titus lay Lexa down; she puts pressure on the wound that is leaking black blood all over the place. Lexa tells Clarke not to be afraid. Yes, you read that right. No, I didn’t mix the names up. Lexa tells Clarke not to be afraid. Clarke can’t even wrap her head around the notion. They just found each other again; she can’t lose her now.
Titus is already preparing some kind of ritual but Clarke is shouting that she can fix this, she can fix this, she can fix this. She has to fix this. She has to fix her.
Lexa makes Titus swear that no matter what, he’ll never hurt Clarke. Never even look at her to aggressively. When he promises, she tells Titus to do what he must. Clarke begs Lexa not to give up, but Lexa tries to assure her that her spirit will live on. Clarke says she won’t let Lexa die, but Lexa says she can’t will her to live. There’s nothing either of them can do, not anymore.
Lexa says the next Commander will protect Clarke, but that’s not what Clarke is worried about, not even a little. She looks into Lexa’s eyes and says she doesn’t want another Commander. “I want you,” she says.
In town, time runs out, and Octavia knows Clarke isn’t coming, though she doesn’t know why. She starts to head back to Arkadia when she hears her name. But it’s not Clarke that has found her, it’s Indra. They shake, and Indra will go with her little warrior, she will fight by her side.
Titus starts using Lexa’s blood as he continues his weird ritual, and Clarke stops fighting. She tells Lexa she’s here, that she’s by her side, and puts her hand on Lexa’s head.
Lexa looks up at Clarke and says her fight is over. Clarke doesn’t want that, though. She doesn’t want to say goodbye. Lexa thanks her for teaching her something important, that life is about more than just surviving. And Clarke knows now that it’s over. So she starts reciting the Skaikru funeral rite.
In peace, may you leave the shore. In love, may you find the next. Safe passage on your travels until our final journey to the ground. May we meet again.
Clarke kisses Lexa one last time…
And then Lexa is gone.
