“Jane the Virgin” recap (2.11): Doh’nuts

Last week we skipped our Jane the Virgin recap since there was no Luisa in sight. But this week, the show blessed us with not only sweet lady kisses but a brief Rose sighting! Here’s a quick recap of what we what we missed last week.

Jane started online dating, but her tendency to want to immediately picture a happily ever after was scaring some suitors away. She also realized that she’s kind of horny. She had a hot and heavy dream about her advisor Mr. Chavez, too. Petra and Rafael started getting closer again, as they bonded over their past together and their future twins. Rogelio hired his mom to be his manager but then had to fire her after she made everyone on set miserable. She did, however, give him her blessing to marry Xiomara. Michael realized that Nadine imbedded a chip under his skin, and Elena aka Mutter wants it bad.

This week on Jane the Virgin, Jane can’t get the sexy images of Mr. Chavez out of her head. Xiomara thinks Jane should go for it, but Jane says that’s out of the question. It’s almost Xio’s 40th birthday, and Rogelio has a photoshoot and a party planned for her, neither of which Xio really wants.

Since Jane is stuck without a babysitter later in the week, Rogelio offers to watch his grandson. Jane is silently freaking out about it because frankly, would you even trust Rogelio with puppy let alone a human child? She says yes, so not to hurt his feelings, but inside she’s screaming “Dear God no!”

Mid-shoot, Xio is feeling down in the dumps about her career. She never really had a chance to put it first, and now she’s full of regret about how far she’s come. Rogelio tries to give her a pep talk in his Rogelio way, and promises there’s a big surprise for her at the party.

Remember that chucklehead Wesley, Jane’s fake friend who betrayed her and wrote an expose on the Solanos? Well, he’s back…in internet form at least. He’s on an online gossip channel once again wreaking havoc on Rafael’s reputation. The Marbella has been losing reservations left and right after the drug trade connections came to light, and Petra isn’t pleased.

Jane gets together with Mr. Chavez to discuss her book, but all she can do is fantasize about him which is making this note session awfully awkward.

At the police station, Det. Barnett is unusually flustered. She makes it seem like it’s all about the chip and getting the info on it, but I think we all know she’s been bitten by the Luisa love bug. Luisa even calls Barnett and makes matters worse by flirting up a storm. Luisa has got this seduction thing down pat! She should give a class. Luisa invites Barnett over later, and Barnett says yes. Sounds like this isn’t the first time either. Is it getting hot in here?

The IT dept hasn’t made progress on the chip, but they have discovered something mind-blowing. Well, it would be mind-blowing if this wasn’t Jane the Virgin. They have found a picture of Elena with her step-daughter Clara. After some high tech facial recognition and age manipulation, we find out a big freaking secret: Elana’s stepdaughter is Rose!

Jane is giving a reading at the school and Xio, Rogelio and Abuela are there, beaming. All is going swimmingly until Jane accidentally calls the lead male character, Jonathan, instead of Armando. Oops. Mr. Chavez takes it in stride and even gives her a little wink. Jane is more confused than ever.

At Rogelio’s apartment, Jane and Xio hash everything out, trying to figure out if Mr. Chavez is feeling the connection too. They are also trying to babyproof Rogelio’s deathtrap. While cleaning up, Jane finds the ring that Rogelio’s mom gave him to give to Xio. Naturally, Rogelio comes home just as Xio is trying on the ring. They fess up, and he tells the women it was meant to be a surprise. He then gives the ring to Jane, as a family heirloom, and Xio tries to hold back her tears of disappointment.

Back at the Marbella, it’s more bad news. The big Hillcroft wedding has pulled out which spells disaster for the hotel. Rafael thinks he can mend fences with the bride, Izzie, since they used to bang back in the day. Petra reminds him that she’s about to get married, and he reminds her of how they got together: On the night of her engagement to another man. Rafael and Petra’s initial attraction was out of a mutual desire to use one another, but it became something more.

Speaking of feeling used, Luisa is totally skeeved out when Barnett and Michael tell her about Rose and Elena’s connection. When the queen of inappropriate behavior is appalled, you know it’s bad. We do, however, get to see some flashbacks of Rose and Luisa sexytimes, so I’ll just leave that here for you.

Luisa does make an important discovery while looking at the picture of Rose and Elena. She recognized the limo driver in the background. He’s driven her and Rose around before, and now Michael and Barnett have a new lead. Luisa, you beautiful mess, you!

Jane meets with Mr. Chavez to discuss her newest chapter and she is dressed to the nines. This meeting is decidedly more cozy, but Jane is disappointed when Mr. Chavez asks if he and his mom can visit Rogelio’s set. Mom’s a big fan. Jane thought perhaps he was going to ask her out.

Rafael and a very preggers Petra decide to pop into Izzie Hillcroft’s gallery showing to try and convince her not to move the wedding. However, when Izzie sees Petra, she flips. Back in the day when Izzie was a barista, Petra freaked out on her and got her fired. She did inspire Izzie’s work of art, “Trophy Wife.” Petra is horrified, both at the statue and her past behavior.

It’s Rogelio’s day to babysit Mateo, and Jane is a ball of nerves. When Xio calls to say that Rogelio has been tweeting all this other crazy stuff he’s doing while he’s supposed to be watching him, Jane flips out. Rogelio is actually doing a great job with his grandson. Well, for a second. He shows Mateo the diamond he’s going to use in his ring for Xio. When Jane calls to ask about the tweets, Rogelio confirms they are just preset musings and not to worry. Except that the diamond is now gone from his hand, and heading down Mateo’s esophagus. At the hospital, the doctor tells Jane that Mateo will be fine and poop out the diamond, but she’s steaming mad at her father and yells at him before storming out.

Xio gets a bit of bad news herself. The bar she was singing at doesn’t want her back since she cancelled too many shows to deal with family issues.

The next day, Mr. Chavez and his mom arrive at set and Rogelio practically charms her pants right off. Mr. Chavez is blown away and very touched, and starts doing the flirty things Xiomara told Jane to be on the lookout for. He tells her to call him Jonathan, shares more personal details about his life and even touches her on the small of her back. Jane misreads the signals though and ends up kissing his sweater and awkwardly driving away. Who else here has done this? I totally have. Jane, that was such a lesbian move!

Thinking she’s doing good, Petra invites a major art critic to Izzie Hillcroft’s show. Unfortunately, the critic hated it and Izzie is now humiliated. It does lead to Rafael and Petra talking about their own wedding, and how in love they were back then. It also gives Petra an idea. She offers Izzie a free wedding if she agrees to have it at the Marbella. Izzie agrees as long as her statue gets a place in the lobby. Petra is learning a lot about humility this season.

Luisa is wired and sets up a meeting with Rose’s driver. She tells him that she needs to see Rose, and that she’s still in love with her and has been secretly hoping that Rose would come back for her one day. Barnett hears all this, and even though it was all part of the plan, from the look on her face, it’s hard as hell to swallow. Luisa tells him to tell Rose to leave her donuts if she wants to meet. It’s a thing with these two.

Jane confronts Jonathan about the sweater kiss and promises it won’t happen again. Jonathan tells her he could get fired for hitting on a student, so he didn’t mean to send any signals. They agree to try to stay professional. Boo.

Xiomara gets a call asking her to pick up a gig on the night of her scheduled birthday party, so she goes to Rogelio to explain. He wants her to cancel, but she thinks he doesn’t care about her dreams and leaves in a huff. (Also, Rogelio’s commitment to his skin regimen is admirable.) Really, Rogelio is upset because he had planned to propose that night.

Xio kills it at the club with a Spanish language version of “Close to You” by The Carpenters. Rogelio arrives and with just a look, all is forgiven. Rogelio tells Jane that he wants to be a good father, and raise a family with Xiomara. It’s a really tender moment between these two. Later, Rogelio appears backstage and proposes to Xio. When he mentions having more children with her, she puts on the brakes. She doesn’t want any more kids and Rogelio isn’t sure if this is a deal breaker or not. Man, just as these two crazy kids were about to make it official.

Also having a moment are Rafael and Petra. Rafael is so impressed with Petra, and all this time together is stirring real emotions. Rafael kisses her, but Petra thinks back to her wedding day and how falling in love really screwed up her plan. She stops him and asks if he’s over Jane. His silence answers that question.

While Luisa waits for Rose and/or donuts, Barnett shows up. Luisa quickly puts aside her Rose longing to try and get Barnett’s clothes off as quickly as she can. Holler!

Barnett puts a kibosh on the kissing though because of Luisa’s lingering feelings for Rose. Luisa admits the most lesbian thing ever: she needs closure with Rose. Barnett isn’t willing to put her heart on the line while Luisa is still in love with Rose, so she walks away for now.

Jane also decides to walk away from something. Well, two things actually. Her virginity pledge and Jonathan. She decides that now that she’s an adult with needs and desires, maybe holding tight to a pledge made when she was 10, isn’t the best route for her anymore. She stops by Jonathan’s office to tell him that she’s requesting a new advisor. Much to her surprise, now that he’s not her advisor, he can ask her out, which he does. She totes says yes.

While Barnett and Michael are finding out what’s on the chip, Elane aka Mutter is holding a special. private meeting at her chalet. She wants that chip bad, and guess who else does as well. ROSE!!!!!

Gone is the glorious red hair, but it’s still Bridget Regan‘s perfect face. Yes, this is the moment we’ve been waiting for, people. Rose is back.
