“Rosewood” recap (1.8): New dreams

When Rosewood first started, I was convinced this wasn’t going to be a show I was interested in watching, specifically because I was concerned that the storyline between Pippy and TMI was never going to go past them working as lab rats. However, over the last two weeks, we have seen a lot more of this cute lesbian couple, specifically Pippy. This week, the show opened with Rosie introducing his sister to the karaoke stage and she blew us away with her amazing voice, not to mention the fact that she sang a sweet romance ballad to TMI. (I am waiting for my wife to sing to me like that, but I have a feeling I will be waiting a while.)

We head to the lab where Rosie, TMI and Pippy are hard at work when Rosie compliments Pippy on her singing the night before and that their mom was right to force her on a train to audition for Juilliard. Juilliard! Apparently Pippy was accepted into Juilliard and turned it down. The crazy part was this was BRAND NEW INFORMATION for TMI-she literally had no idea that Pippy was accepted to Juilliard. Now, I don’t know about any of you, but if I was accepted into the most prestigious performing arts conservatory, MY FIANCE WOULD KNOW ABOUT IT! TMI is shocked by the fact that she was not only accepted into Juilliard, but that Pippy never told her.

Later that day, Pippy and TMI are having a “discussion” about why Pippy would not tell TMI about Juilliard (yes, Pippy, WHY?) and basically Pippy says she didn’t go so there was nothing to share. Clearly everyone else is more impressed with this than Pippy. Rosie comes in while TMI is storming off upset and tells Pippy that she is fired from her position at the lab, because she needs to go pursue her dreams of singing. He tells her he feels like he is holding her back and that the only reason she is sticking around is for him, so she needs to go. This is one thing about the show that I have a hard time with: Rosie thinks everyone and everything exists because of him! I understand he is the protagonist, but it can be a little overbearing at times.

That evening, TMI returns to the lab to get her bag and finds Pippy working (my dream is to some day see where they live, but for now the lab will do) and things are kind of awkward, maybe because they were arguing earlier that day. As TMI walks out, she turns and tells Pippy that she loves her, she loves her voice and she will follow her to NYC if singing is her dream. However, she also tells her that she is afraid she will leave her for someone else and she will lose her forever. Rather than Pippy respond with “No way, babe. That will never happen,” she basically lets TMI walk away crying and thinking her worst nightmare is about to come true.

In the end, Pippy tells Rosie that she is staying right where she is, but she’s not staying just for him – she’s staying for herself, too. She loves where she is at in her career and although her dream was to sing, her dream has changed and she is OK with it. She also tells him that she loves TMI so much and how lucky she is to have someone who loves her. Then she says my favorite line so far this season: “I have a finance who is so crazy about me that she actually thought I was going to leave her for some pixie rock chic with an Ellen Page haircut. But what that girl doesn’t know is she would have to blow up the damn planet to push me away.”

I am excited that these characters are getting more of a storyline, hopefully as the show continues, we will see more of them and perhaps a little more relaxed PDA (sometimes it feels a little stiff, as if they are uncomfortable touching each other).
