Morning Brew – Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker offer advice on coming out and first kisses

Morning!

I didn’t know that Garth Brooks had a lesbian sister, did you? Do you think Chris Gaines has one, too?

Lena Dunham says Diane Keaton once asked her if she was a lesbian when Lena was at a Christmas party with Girls producer Judd Apatow.

“Diane asked Judd, ‘Is this your wife?’, he said, ‘No, this is my friend Lena, and she’s significantly younger than me.’ Diane looked at me and said, ‘Do you even like men? Are you interested in men?’ It was the best thing. Diane Keaton straight-up was just like, ‘Oh, there’s a lesbian, and I’m Diane Keaton, so I don’t even need to beat around the proverbial bush. I’ll just let her know.'”

Diane! You are so presumptuous.

There seems to be a fantastic production of The Killing of Sister George in St. Louis, Missouri.

In New York, a “forgotten opera” from lesbian composer Dame Ethel Smyth has been resurrected. The Wreckers is being performed by the American Symphony Orchestra at the SummerScape festival, beginning July 24. Conductor Leon Bolstein said of Ethel:

“She got arrested for demonstrating on behalf of women’s right to vote. She was a lesbian, and she suffered ostracism for being a composer, which was considered an inappropriate female profession. … My crusade is to rectify the injustices of the way we represent music history to the listening public. The operatic repertoire is richer than anybody could imagine. And I’m proud of the extent to which I’ve been able to put unknown repertory on its feet.”

I expected Rainbow Direction (aka LGBT fans of One Direction) to be all gay men, but it looks like queer women are going hard for Harry Styles and co.

In Future‘s new video, “Real Sisters,” two sexy ladies make out and provide entertainment for the rapper and friends….until they get all Bound on their asses and pull out guns, taking off with the cash. I could have used a little more of the actual women and their victory in the video, but that’d be asking too much.

Blake Lively recently went girl-on-girl.

Den of Geek has some intel on the new Sailor Moon S cast.

Holly Miranda filmed her new music video entirely by GoPro and her iPhone. She talked with Rookie about the hazards of using selfie sticks.

Also on Rookie, Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker offer Advice from a Grown Woman, including how to go for your first kiss and coming out to a friend you have a crush on.

On Buzzfeed, our own Anna Pulley writes about bi-erasure on Orange is the New Black.

Go behind-the-scenes of the Sports Illustrated USWNT covershoot! You know you want to.

Sarah Paulson is playing a “bad guy” on the new season of American Horror Story: Hotel, and she’s feeling pretty psyched about it.

Naked love is in the air in this new video from VH1’s Dating Naked, celebrating #LoveWins. Same-sex couples included! Dating Naked: Playing for Keeps premieres July 22nd and I’m hoping for some lesbian pairings.

Next Monday, there will be a groundbreaking ceremony in NYC for the new Bea Arthur Residence, “an 18-bed residence for homeless LGBT youth operated by the Ali Forney Center.” So awesome.

In “The Hard Way,” Caitlin Bergh and fellow comic Lindsay Adams go for a hike.

Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu is apparently terrified of lesbians.

“Yes, I have been propositioned. For Valentine’s Day, one lesbian had bought me a diamond necklace. She was in love with me. I freaked out. I was so scared, I started crying. I was really young. Even now in parties, when I notice people coming towards me and dancing strangely, I just push them and run away. I am still petrified.”

She is STILL petrified. DANCING TOWARD HER STRANGELY. I can’t, you guys.

And Person of Interest

But it might be disappointing to let you know that when Hayley Atwell talks about Agent Carter‘s love interests in Season 2, the pronoun “he” is used.
