Morning Brew – An Ireland castle gets a gorgeous lesbian mural

Good morning!

Are you a married lady? Know someone who is? We are working with Skyy Vodka and Freedom to Marry on #ToasttoMarriage, a new campaign celebrating same sex couples who have made it legal. We want to share your stories, so head over to our Tumblr and tell us about the proposal, the ceremony and the advice you’d give other women in love.

Apparently women are required to wear heels to screenings in Cannes, and some lesbians were turned away for not complying when they sent to see Carol. Like heels make the movie-viewing experience any better? Cannes, you cray.

Speaking of Carol, The Hollywood Reporter spoke with the film’s female producers (Elizabeth Karlsen, Christine Vachon, Alison Browe) and Deadline filmed their chat with director Todd Hayes and stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.

Irish TV star Vogue Williams says her sister is gay, and she is voting “Yes” for equal marriage in Ireland this week:

“My sister is a lesbian and I want her to have that same feeling. A civil partnership is not the same as marriage. She’s in a serious relationship with a girl I am obsessed with. I would love her to marry her girlfriend because I love her so much. I’m definitely 100% voting ‘Yes’. I think voting ‘No’ would be voting against other people’s happiness.”

Speaking of Ireland, Irish Eurovision contestant Mollie Sterling received some advice from Panti Bliss, including, “”How about dressing down a little, jeans, t-shirt, maybe strap your boobs down, crew cut, lesbian chic?”

But in even more amazing Irish news, I am obsessed with this new lesbian mural on the side of a fucking castle!

I spent the weekend just outside Galway taking photos as @joecaslin installed this same sex dual portrait on a 15th century castle. This image is also on the cover of today’s Irish Times. #yesequality #voteyes #streetart #photography #illilustration #ireland #castle #vsco check out the full story at @thelocalsdublin www.thelocals.ie

The Italian Women’s Cup Final has been cancelled after the head of the league referred to the soccer team as “a bunch of lesbians,” as I told you about in yesterday’s Brew. It appears players and coaches made the decision, which is sad for fans but I trust the bunch of lesbians to make the right choice.

Elizabeth Banks talked with Ester Dean about casting her as the lesbian character in Pitch Perfect for Interview magazine.

BANKS: You came in late in our process. We were looking around, “Who is going to be this person?” We had no idea. We auditioned a lot of people. We weren’t sure how big that role was supposed to be. There are a lot of characters in the Barden Bellas, and we want everyone to be interesting and unique, but we didn’t know how much there would be to do. And you know better than anyone how, from the first film to this one, Cynthia-Rose has come into her own and is really owning who she is. There are so many more jokes we can tell because of that.

DEAN: Someone asked what was the best part about working with you, and I said “Of course we did our jobs, you say the part in the script, but Elizabeth lets us freestyle and be free to figure out who Cynthia-Rose is.” I didn’t feel confined. I felt like, “Let’s see if I can make Elizabeth laugh.” It was a fun thing.

In this MakeSpace video, a lesbian couple U-Hauls a little too soon.

A new film about a lesbian romance calls itself “This generation’s Love Jones” and is based on the novel Water In A Broken Glass by Odessa Rose. Water – a DC Love Story is raising money to get made on Indiegogo now. (Thanks Peter!)
