“Newlyweds: The First Year” recap (2.10): The Final Push

Yay! It’s over! Four couples got married and survived a whole year of each other’s company! I feel confident that probably only half of them will one day get divorced. And yay for us-we survived 10 episodes! I’m so happy I never have to see these people get sonograms or hang out in their dirty bathrooms ever again.

Sam and Laura are very charming in this episode, as always. They decide to pack their bags and head to Cedar Lakes, where they got married, to celebrate their one-year anniversary. Their dogs are thrilled.

Once they arrive at Cedar Lakes, it looks like they have the whole place to themselves. They bring the dogs out onto the dock for a little picnic and talk about how much life has changed since they first met. Laura decides to go skinny dipping. They talk about how Laura is always trying to get naked and they don’t know why. Hey girl, I feel you. These clothes feel like literal chains to me. I’m sure you guys are hoping for a nude screenshot here, but sadly the Bravo people blurred everything out.

After the picnic and the dip, they gals sit in a hammock with their fluffy Pomeranians and talk some more about how much life has changed. They survived their twenties together and now they are looking forward to having babies and being 30.

In their final scene of the season, Laura and Sam attempt to recreate the moment at their wedding when Sam walked out to meet Laura on a dock on the lake. It’s adorable because now they have their dogs and are wearing flannels and shorts. But I think they pretty much nail it.

Overall, it’s been a pleasure getting to know Sam and Laura and I’m sure we will be seeing a lot more of them. They are an exemplary normal couple for young girls who like girls everywhere to look up to. They prove that you don’t have to be dramatic or crazy to be gay. So I guess everyone who grew up trying to be like Shane and Jenny can now stop sabotaging their lives and getting crazy haircuts.

Happy anniversary, Laura and Sam. You did it!
