Morning Brew – Queen Latifah talks equality

Today is a very important day for us, as the Supreme Court will begin to hear arguments in a case that could determine if same-sex marriage is a constitutional right. We will likely have to wait until June to hear the outcome, but let’s all send really positive vibes toward D.C. so the powers that be can feel some much needed love instead of hate.

Queen Latifah spoke about equality recently with Uptown magazine.

“Who you choose to marry is really up to you and it’s not something you should be judged on. I don’t find being gay or lesbian to be a character flaw. Couples should be protected under the laws of this country, period. It actually angers me.”

Heather Barwick, Katy Faust and four other daughters of lesbian mothers, have filed a friend of the court brief “saying they were harmed because they were not raised by a father and a mother.” If you watch the video at the link, you’ll probably want to tear your hair out but these are the kinds of arguments the other side is making: “No one should be forced to accept anyone else.”
