Morning Brew – “Carol” officially headed to Cannes

Good morning!

France made history this week by allowing “four lesbian women to adopt children born to their wives abroad through artificial insemination.” Even though it’s legal to marry your same sex partner and adopt a child together, “only heterosexual couples are allowed to have medically assisted fertilization.” That’s a head scratcher.

While we’re talking about France, Carol is officially making its premiere at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival in May. The adaptation of Patricia Highsmith‘s lesbian-themed novel The Price of Salt will compete for the Palm d’Or prize.

The other day I told you about Christelle Nangou, a lesbian from Cameroon seeking asylum in Spain. Well after spending 24 days at the Madrid airport, her request has been granted.

Rolling Stone has a really cool video about Tegan and Sara‘s career and dedicated fan base.

Joan Jett is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this Saturday.

UK brand Matalan has a new campaign all about modern families, and that includes lesbian moms.

Sue Perkins is only rumored to be taking over the hosting gig for Top Gear, but she’s already receiving a lot of terrible tweets and death threats from angry fans of the show. Note: The writer at the link doesn’t want her for the gig, which makes me want her to get it EVEN MORE.

And now you’re shipping Anna Kendrick with Emily Blunt.

Courtney Barnett‘s new video for “Kim’s Caravan” is hauntingly beautiful.

A tragic story out of Atlanta: Lesbian activist Catherine Han Montoya has been stabbed to death in her home.

The California Senate voted to make the Sally Ride statue happen. Now the late astronaut will live forever next to Ronald Reagan in the Congressional collection in Washington D.C.

Dying to know what’s going on with Delphine when Orphan Black comes back this weekend? EP Graeme Mason offers a few tidbits.
