Morning Brew – Ruby Rose debuts in a new “Orange is the New Black” video

Good morning!

I’m writing to you from New York, where I’m working alongside Dana Piccoli IRL! She put on “Closer to Fine” outside my door, which is the ideal alarm clock.

First thing’s first: This is an amazing video from the women of Orange is the New Black, and Ruby Rose shows up as Stella Carlin for the first time.

At The Guardian: “I’m queer no matter who I’m with. I won’t define myself differently for your comfort.”

LGBT women are affected by HIV, too.

The Justin Bieber Roast on Comedy Central was filmed over the weekend and it sounds like lesbian jokes were part of the “fun.”

Jeff Ross: “Lately a lot of people have been pointing their fingers at you – and those are just lesbians showing the barber how they want their haircut.”

Bieber: “What do you get when you give a teenager $200 million. A bunch of has-beens calling you a lesbian for two hours.”

You can watch it for yourself (if you dare) on Monday, March 30. Maybe take a shot every time someone refers to the Biebs as a lesbian and see how drunk you get.

The Fosters stars Sherri Shaum, Teri Polo and Maia Mitchell answered some fun questions for TVGuide. Maia actually chooses the most lesbian song for “go-to karaoke tune.”

Latina writes about why Santana’s relationship with her abuela was important on Glee.

Carrie Brownstein’s memoir, Hunger Makes me a Modern Girl, will come out on October 27. The publisher says its “deeply personal and revealing.”

Congrats to Rabbi Denise L Eger, who was elected the first ever lesbian President to the Central Conference of American Rabbis this week, the world’s largest Rabbi organization. Denise says:

“It really shows an arc of LGBT civil rights… I smile a lot-with a smile of incredulousness. It’s about human rights and human dignity. If you can be a rabbi, if you can be a person of faith, if you can serve a community as their pastor, and you can have the opportunity to begin to reconcile all of those issues, it speaks volumes.”

Nursing Times writes about a new toolkit that will help nurses in preventing suicide in LGBT teens. It’s a joint initiative between Public Health England and the Royal College of Nursing, and sounds really cool and necessary.

Edie Windsor and Judy Shepherd will be honored at this year’s 50th Anniversary Celebration of the LGBT Movement. The women will receive International Role Model Awards at the ceremony in Philly this July.
