We’re Getting Nowhere: “The L Word” Season 1 Finale, “Limb From Limb”

It’s the final episode of Season One of The L Word, and the stage is set for even more drama to come in Season Two (and all of those that follow).

Bette and Candace check into a motel (and probably should never check out), then Tina figures it all out and goes nuts. A heartbroken Shane gets the big boot from Cheri, and Alice makes a midnight confession to Dana. Meanwhile, Jenny watches Gene and Robin sleep. Will they still be sleeping when Season Two begins? If they are, the arrival of Ms. Carmen de la Pica Morales should wake their asses up. (I speak from personal experience!) It’s also the final episode of WGN. We’ve kept our little v-log running for over a year and have had the privilege of being joined on the sofa by some amazing women, including Liz Feldman, Maile Flanagan, Maeve Quinlan, Jane Lynch, Elizabeth Keener, Bridget McManus, Mandy Musgrave, Coley Sohn and Meredith Scott Lynn. We send them each a tip of the hat for gracing us with their presence and having the good humor (but perhaps not the good sense) to go along with our antics.

Most importantly, we would like to thank the WGN viewers who have been so kind as to loyally watch each week, send us comments and make some pretty amazing tribute videos.

Lastly, we apologize to everyone we mocked in our re-enactments. Remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. (And if you believe that, then Bette is taking bids for a new contracting job and would love to talk to you about your, ahem, “specs.”)

When considering our final episode, Dara Nai specifically wanted to say, “I thought of Oscar Wilde’s deathbed quip, “Either those curtains go or I do.” As a gay writer, there’s really no topping that. Plus, we may be going nowhere, but we’re not dead.

Thanks to all the fans who noticed every last, weird bit of minutia; raced to leave the first comment, before they’ve even watched the episode; gave cheers and jeers to our shirts, our hair, our beverages and our pets; and gave us big love for doing something that was way too much fun.

In the immortal last words of Sylvia Plath, “I can fix this oven.”

So thanks for the memories, and watch the last episode here now… Watch previous episodes of We’re Getting Nowhere.
