“Sisterhood of Hip Hop” recap (1.6): The female Pac

This week, we pick right back up with Diamond’s party in Miami. She’s kissing on her ex, Soulja Boy, while everyone looks on like “!?!?!”

Diamond tells the sisters that they’re just friends and going to work together in the studio. They appease her for now.

Back in New York, Siya goes to Renaye’s hotel room. (WHERE IS THE DOG!?) They start to have a conversation, yet again, about how Renaye is sad and angry when Siya puts other things and people before her. “Me missing you is the problem!” Renaye explains, while they share some tenderness. “You think I don’t know when you feel some type of way?” Siya asks. “Of course I do!”

Renaye admits to the camera she can overreact sometimes, and they entangle their fingers and speak to each other lovingly while staring into one another’s eyes. Cute!

Nyemiah is doing an interview where she shows off her bitchy resting face. She’s so blase during the Q&A, its a wonder she got on this show! It’s so awkward. “I don’t have a bae,” she says. “There is no bae.” She has no interest in discussing relationships or guys or, well, anything. Sorry dude!

Next she’s doing a show in Queens for fans and bloggers. She lights up the stage with her spitting and twerking and people are loving Nyemiah Supreme.

But after the show, she’s not interested in talking to the press. (How dare she ignore her bloggers!) Her manager, Alex, is not thrilled and gives her a talking-to backstage. Alex tries to explain that Nyemiah has to show off her cool personality off-stage just like she does on. Nyemiah promises to be better next time and Alex offers to set up an interview for tomorrow. Nyemiah is less than psyched.

Down in Miami, Diamond is in the studio with Soulja Boy. He’s calling her a queen, telling her she’s a star – everything Diamond wants to hear. “We been A-1 since day one,” Diamond tells SB. He says he’s been working on beats for her, and she starts flowing: “Purple weave to match that drank!”

Siya is in the studio, too, but she’s not with an ex – she’s with Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes. (They met on Twitter.) He notices she doesn’t look happy and she says she and Renaye are a little “rocky” at the moment. Travie sympathizes and listens to her complaints about Tank, too. Siya is so stuck. I want to reach through my TV screen and hug her.

Travie says she doesn’t give herself enough credit, and luckily Siya feels better after talking to him. But she needs to meet with Tank, yet again, to get things popping.

Nyemiah and Alex are on their way to an interview and Alex encourages her to be herself. Music journalist Kathy Iandoli is the one doing the questioning, and Nyemiah is doing well. She’s sharing how she is in the studio and what her album will be like. She is lively and seems happy to talk about her relationship with Timbaland, until Kathy says there are rumors she has a romantic relationship with him. This turns into personal questions and Nyemiah’s bitchy resting face comes back, immediately. She refuses to talk about anything outside of music and Kathy asks why she doesn’t want her fans to know who she is. Nyemiah shuts down, which is something I’ve seen firsthand from a lot of artists, honestly. A lot of entertainers would prefer to keep things professional, but it’s inevitable their public will want to know everything they can about them.

At dinner with Tank, Siya says she wants to go on The Breakfast Club radio show, but Tank says she doesn’t have anything to sell yet. He wants her to change her image and meet with a stylist, which annoys Siya. She’s likes her style and now she’s worried Tank doesn’t, especially when he says he wants her more “refined.” Siya is like “That means some girlie shit!” Ugh. How will making her look less like Siya and more like other female rappers make her stand out!?

Diamond meets with Eve and tells her why she invited Soulja Boy to her party in Miami. She explains he’s a wonderful producer and she still wants to be his friend. “You’re not trying to go back there though…” Eve says. Diamond says no, she’s not. She just had a nostalgic moment and now she’s past it. Eve says as long as it’s not a distraction, she sees no problem with their friendship. Diamond laments that some tabloids have picked up on her being back with SB. Eve says that’s what’s nice about doing press on radio shows and the like: “Then you can answer back, right there!”

Tank sends a stylist to Siya’s apartment and she’s bringing in racks on racks of outfits Siya is ready to hate. Renaye is on the couch with a perplexed look. The stylist, Mia Maddox, is trying to get Siya excited about the possibilities. Siya calls herself “urban couture” and says “The girl thing is not me.” Mia wants to know if Siya is “comfortable being a woman.” Mia wants people to not feel “uncomfortable” with knowing if Siya is a girl or a boy. Sigh. One blue blazer she likes, so maybe there will be at least something Siya can find to agree with, although WHO GIVES A FUCK IF PEOPLE ARE UNCOMFORTABLE!? Anyway.

“I don’t do dresses!” Siya says, and is trying to figure out how to put one on for the first time in forever. “I look like a transexual!” Siya would never be seen in public in a dress, she said, and won’t take off her boxers underneath. She’s happy with who she is. Sorry, Tank!

The next day, she is on the phone with Tank and saying she felt like a clown. “I’m not trying to change nothing, man. You knew that from the jump!” she says. She thought Tank was supportive of her and who she was, but now he’s saying he wants to “refine” the look. He claims he didn’t mean he wanted her to be more femme, and apologizes. He wants her to meet a friend of his and says this meeting will be “100 times better than the styling fiasco she just went through.”

Diamond is on The Breakfast Club and saying she’s single. Everyone is wondering what’s going on with SB, but Diamond squashes that real quick. They’re friends and working together, but they are broken up. She wants people to know she’ll never be seen with Lil Scrappy, though – “No shade, no tea.” Diamond handles herself like a pro. “That’s the past and I want to talk about what’s going on now and moving forward.”

Siya goes to meet with Tank’s mystery friend and it’s Irv Gotti, aka the founder of The Inc. He’s been behind some of hip hop’s greatest songs in the past 20 years. “You’re saying your image, because you’re a lesbian -” and that’s all I can understand because he’s bleeped out. Irv loves what Siya’s doing because he says he’s heard everything you can hear in rap – except for what she has to say. She plays her song, “100,” for Irv and he says it was dope. He calls her the female 2-Pac, explaining he had no crew and that’s where Siya is right now. “It’s either you gonna be like at the top of the game or you ain’t gonna be shit,” he says. “It ain’t gonna be no middle for Siya.” Damn, he’s passionate and he is giving Siya the pep talk she needs. “Stay away from my [bleep],” he says, and I assume he means bitches or some shit. “Keep them all locked,” she jokes before she leaves.

Nyemiah’s cousin Rashida is wearing a Nyemiah Supreme shirt, so clearly she’s a fan. Alex comes over to discuss the interview with Kathy. “It really looks like you don’t give a fuck,” Alex says. Nyemiah’s cousin says Beyonce isn’t doing interviews like this and Alex is like, “Um, she’s not Beyonce yet.”

“Social media has changed music,” Alex says. She says Bey uses social media to show off her life and baby (Blue Ivy shout out!) and Rashida is trying to defend how Nyeamiah puts herself out there which just makes Alex more upset. She asks what Nyemiah is so afraid of and suggests she might not be able to manage her anymore.

Well, Nyemiah, I hear Kiki is available!

No Bia or Brianna this week, but it looks like next week’s episode will be all about them so no worries if you missed the two Bs.
