Morning Brew – French actress Adele Haenel wins huge award and comes out

Good morning! I had a lovely weekend in Washington, D.C. at the LGBT Media Convening. So nice to meet those of you who came out to say hello and I also had the opportunity to go to Phase 1, one of the oldest lesbian bars in the country that is still standing. (Sad but true!)

Let’s get into some trouble now, starting with Miley Cyrus. This time she’s kissing another woman who identifies as something other than straight! Out rapper Brooke Candy was on the receiving end of Miley’s lips in an Instagram photo, because we all know it’s pics or it didn’t happen.

Last week in L.A. a launch party for Annie Leibovitz’s new book with Vanity Fair and engaged couple Linda Perry and Sara Gilbert came out to celebrate.

Speaking of Annie, I am LOVING her photographs of Ellen DeGeneres in Vanity Fair. Ryan Seacrest loves Ellen DeGeneres so much that he wrote about it for the mag. My favorite part:

I think a large part of Ellen’s success comes from not pretending to be somebody else. She has the most loyal fans because they respect her for who she is. Ellen’s an advocate for change; she’s known as a trailblazer for gay rights and is married to Portia de Rossi. (I was at their 2008 wedding, which was one of the most moving ceremonies I’ve ever been to.) Ellen’s a vegan, a humanitarian, and an animal-lover.

Blue is the Warmest Color star Adele Exarchopoulos won Best Actress at the Cesars (aka the French equivalent of the Oscars), thanking co-star Lea Seydoux and calling it, “My most beautiful love story… on film. Also rad: Adèle Haenel won Best Supporting Actress for her work in Suzanne and, for the first time in public, acknowledged her love, out director Céline Sciamma, who she met while working together on their film Water Lilies. Roughly she said “I thank Celine because, well, I love her.”

A lesbian bride writes about booking her Grand Canyon honeymoon, but figuring out if she should change her plans based on Arizona’s bigotry.

Over at Fusion: “5 Reasons By Being Bisexual is Harder Than You Think.” Worth it for the gifs alone!

ER and Pretty Little Liars are getting Asian remakes! Let’s hope they keep their Sapphicness so we can see it in subtitles, too.

If you love Ariel Schrag like you should, and live in NYC, you might want to be an extra in the trailer for her upcoming novel, Adam. Aril needs lesbians and trans guys for a scene in a lesbian club, filming tomorrow at the Old Man Hustle Bar on the Lower East Side from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but you don’t have to stay the whole time. If you’re interested, shoot an email to [email protected].
