Chamique Holdsclaw opens up about attacking her ex-girlfriend on “Iyanla: Fix My Life”

At one time Chamique Holdsclaw was a WNBA superstar. She is an Olympic gold medalist, a champion basketball player who also released a memoir about pushing through obstacles to achieve your dreams. In the last year, however, she’s had some public struggles, including an arrest for a violent attack on her ex-girlfriend’s car.

Chamique reached out for help and will appear on the August 17 episode of OWN’s Iyanla: Fix My Life, where spiritual life coach Iyanla Vanzant will sit down with her to have “emotional heart-to-heart-discussions ” and “work to confront her past, her anger and depression issues, her fear of abandonment and most importantly to heal her relationship with her mother, before an incident like the one in 2012 can occur again.”

While Chamique had never officially came out before the incident with her ex, she was a part of a lesbian web series called The Other Women of America. After the arrest, she began posting LGBT positive photos and messages on her Instagram and Twitter.

Recently Chamique was a guest on OTL on ESPN where she discussed the events, going to jail and seeing her mugshot circulating on the internet. This is the first time on video she has discussed dating a woman, in this case the ex in question, Jennifer Lacey.

Iyanla will work with Chamique on figuring out why she’s had difficulties after losing her grandma, who helped to raise her.

Here is hoping that Chamique will be able to find the support she needs, whether it’s through Iyanla, her family, or fans.

Iyanla: Fix My Life will air Saturday, August 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
