Ellen DeGeneres Wins Big at 2007 Daytime Emmys

Ellen DeGeneres was the big winner at the 34th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, taking home her fourth straight win for Outstanding Talk Show and her third for Outstanding Talk Show Host. Accepting the Outstanding Talk Show award onstage, DeGeneres thanked a long list of people and jokingly told girlfriend Portia de Rossi, “Portia, I still love you this year.”

The Ellen DeGeneres Show also won in the categories for Directing in a Talk Show and Art Direction.

DeGeneres expressed surprise at beating out The View‘s Rosie O’Donnell for Outstanding Talk Show Host. “I liked what [Rosie] did,” Ellen said in her acceptance speech. “This was the year she should have won. I wanted to acknowledge Rosie because she has done a lot.” Later she told the press, “I don’t know who should replace [Rosie] but I don’t think it should be Paris Hilton. That would not work.”

It was at last year’s Emmy Awards – in which Ellen also brought home the award for Outstanding Talk Show and Outstanding Talk-Show Host – that Barbara Walters announced Rosie would be joining The View. Earlier this month, O’Donnell abruptly departed the daytime talk show three weeks shy of the end of her contract; she was absent from this year’s awards show due to a previously announced conflict with her children’s schedule.

DeGeneres also handed out the award for Outstanding Game Show Host to Bob Barker, who recently retired from The Price Is Right after 35 years. DeGeneres quipped during one of her acceptance speeches: “I just want to say it: I think Bob Barker is a quitter.”
