Grey’s Anatomy” SnapCap (8.23): “Migration”

Just like birds in winter the residents of Seattle Grace hospital are dealing with “Migration.” Who will stay on at Seattle Grace and who will fly the coop? I guess we’ll find out in next week’s tragic finale.

AfterEllen Bait

Callie and Arizona are once again the best couple at the hospital. Derek reminds Meredith that she can’t chose which job she’ll take based on Cristina’s decision and Cristina dumps Meredith as her “person.” Oh, snap!

Feelings, Feelings, Feelings

April is understandably devastated after failing her boards. She loses all of her job offers, including her offer from Seattle Grace. Owen tells April she’s no longer the best candidate for the job. Poor April.

Arizona has to deliver the sad news to her brother’s best friend Nick that his cancer is incurable. Arizona has an emotional breakdown and makes Callie promise that she’ll never leave her. Which she won’t because 1.) she’s awesome and 2.) Jessica Capshaw is an adorable hot piece, so why would anyone leave her?

Mark still hasn’t figured out if he should be with Lexie or his new girlfriend Julia, but once he makes a decision I’ll let you know.

Chief Owen is waiting to find out which of his residents are staying and which are heading off. Meredith wants to stay in Seattle but Derek is pushing for her to take the job in Boston. Alex wants to stay in Seattle with Arizona but (for some reason) Johns Hopkins has made him an offer he can’t refuse. Richard convinces Alex to play hard ball and negotiate back and forth between Seattle and Hopkins to see which hospital will offer him the most. In the end, Alex chooses Hopkins, causing Arizona to rage out. Alex reminds Arizona that she went to Hopkins too, but Arizona can only focus on him leaving her. Come on, Arizona! Hopkins is offering Alex an international rotation, moving expenses, full pay-off on all of his student loans and a mortgage allowance. (Even with all those incentives, I bet Alex will be back in Seattle next year.)

Meredith is urging Cristina to take the job at Stanford so they can be close by. Cristina says she might just stay in Seattle and when Meredith interjects her unsupportive opinion of Owen (again), Cristina shuts her down and tells Meredith that she is no longer her “person.” Owen is Cristina’s person now. And with that, it’s the end of an era.

Whores & Gore

Cristina is struggling over what to do about her marriage. She still loves Owen but she’s tortured over trying to forgive him for his affair. After a night of drinking, Cristina arrives back at her firehouse and climbs in bed with Owen. They snuggle for a few moments before Cristina gets up and walks out the door. Later, Cristina finds Owen sleeping in the on-call room and she climbs on him, kisses him and they have some make-up sex. Although, I’m not sure if they have officially made up. Owen says he’s happy in that moment and Cristina responds that she’s taking the job at the Mayo Clinic. I don’t blame her; they have a fabulous Miracle Whip wing. Wocka Wocka!

Now that Cristina has made her decision, Meredith finally agrees to take the job in Boston. Derek is excited because he will be receiving a $10 million endowment from Harvard so he can continue his research to find the cure for Alzheimer’s. So wait, if Cristina and Meredith stay together in Seattle, then people will continue to suffer from Alzheimer’s forever? That’s a lot of pressure to put on a relationship.

Avery tries to take care of April, who’s drinking excessively and have a pity party for one. Avery seems to have a real romantic connection with April, but when he leans in to kiss her she assumes Avery is just feeling bad for her so she storms off.

Meanwhile, on Bailey’s one day off from the hospital, Ben plans a romantic morning with breakfast in bed and a crossword puzzle. Workaholic Bailey ditchs Ben and heads to the hospital to treat a husband and wife who have parasites crawling under their skin. Ben keeps trying to get Bailey to finish up her work so he can take her out to lunch but Bailey is too stubborn and mocks him and his crossword puzzle in front of her coworkers while they are operating, Bailey steps away from the operating table to do the crossword and comes across the question “Will you marry me?” which Ben placed in the crossword puzzle that he custom made for Bailey. (How sweet!) Bailey is stunned, and when she and Ben return home she gets all dressed up and begs Ben to propose to her again. There is no second proposal, though, because Ben has just been offered a job at UCLA so he’s leaving Seattle and heading to sunny Los Angeles. Sorry Bailey, you snooze, you lose!

Medical Mishaps

Meredith, Derek, Cristina, Arizona, and Mark board a private plane and head off to assist another hospital with a conjoined twin surgery. In a ridiculous turn of events, the plane crashes in the middle of the wilderness leaving the doctors bloody and Derek missing.

That’s it. I think everyone should get new jobs at a different hospitals because obviously Seattle Grace is cursed! So far this show has had car crashes, an escaped lion, a mass shooting, a bomb inside a man’s chest, doctors with PTSD, doctors who have had sexual relationships with their patients, a face transplant, a train crash, a ferry crash, a roof collapse, the ghost of Denny Duquette wandering the halls, a sinkhole and plane crashes. Yes, more than one plane crash. Dear Seattle Grace staff, RUN! Love, Bridget.

What did you think of this episode? Did you foresee the plane crash? Who will be killed off during this week’s finale. I think April will have a massive breakdown and either commit suicide or get drunk and accidentally fall out of a window like Kristen Johnston did in Season 6 of Sex and the City.
