I’m not sure exactly when it happened, but it seems lately that many of the hottest female sci-fi stars have been lending their voices to big-budget videogames. Claudia Black (of Farscape and Stargate fame) has starred in both the Dragon Age and Uncharted series, Tricia Helfer (sexy Cylon number 6 from Battlestar Galactica) gives voice to Edi in the Mass Effect series, and now Sarah Michelle Gellar will be starring as the first female playable character in the Call of Duty series.
In this awesome — and completely adorable — video, the former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star details her history with the series and her excitement about bringing female empowerment to the previously all-sausage-fest franchise. Be sure to watch until the end for a glimpse of Sarah Michelle in the recording studio, spouting her “girl with a gun” lines. Man, I’ve missed her!
Speaking of her Buffy-ness, it seems that Gellar is none too pleased about the idea of a Whedon-less Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot. Scoped on The Mary Sue, a blog all lady geeks should be reading:
I think it’s a horrible idea. To try to do a Buffy without Joss Whedon, I mean that’s, like, honestly, to be incredibly non-eloquent: that’s the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.It sounds like someone has been sharpening her stakes, and rightly so. As much as I like the fact that screenwriter Whit Anderson (who is penning the new project) calls herself a Buffy fan, it just won’t be the same without the feminist geek god himself (or, at the very least, his blessing).— Sarah Michelle Gellar, when asked about the upcoming Joss-Whedonless Buffy the Vampire Slayer Movie remake.
