“Amplify Your Voice” PSAs feature Naya Rivera, Amy Poehler and some Pretty Little Liars

In partnership with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), GLAAD has produced a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) series that encourages everyone to be proactive in putting an end to the bullying. The videos feature celebrities speaking out against anti-LGBT bullying and direct viewers to GLAAD.org where students, parents and teachers can download free anti-bullying resource kits.

Celebrities featured in the campaign include Naya Rivera, Amy Poehler, Kristin Chenoweth, Rashida Jones, Chaz Bono, Dustin Lance Black, Sandra Lee, Shaquille O’Neal, Ariel Winter and the cast of ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars. The campaign also features the personal stories of young people from New York’s LGBT Community Center (the Center). The Center’s Youth Enrichment Services (YES) Program is open to LGBT and questioning people between the ages of 13 and 22, and provides them with community support to foster healthy development in a safe, affirming and drug-free environment.

Plans have also been announced for Spirit Day, when millions of Americans will wear purple on October 20 to stand against LGBT bullying and show support for LGBT youth. Celebrities including Andy Cohen, Steve-O and Padma Laksmi, corporations including AT&T, Comcast, Facebook and Yahoo!, and media outlets including CNBC, E! and MSNBC will all be wearing purple. MTV will be turning their on-air logo purple on Spirit Day, only the second time in the network’s history that they are changing their logo color for a cause.

What do you think of the new PSA videos? Does a celebrity’s involvement in cause like this make you more likely to support them or watch their movies and television shows?
