It’s Friday, Friday, Gotta get down on (Played Out AfterEllen’s new music weekly playlist) Friday. In a week where Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift and every model on Earth released videos it’s basically just a gift from above where I didn’t have to do anything but sit back and enjoy. If you get tired of looping those here are either other tracks to see you right on through cuz’ everybody’s looking forward to the weekend (weekend).
Nicki Minaj feat. Beyonce– “Feeling Myself”
I mean. Also, and as you may know, this video is only available on Jay Z’s music platform Tidal and because I play by the rules over here at AfterEllen this link takes you to an audio version of the song whereby you can decide if you’d like to take the plunge into Tidal. Of course if you didn’t want to I imagine you could find your way around that for a little peak.
Elohim – “She Talks Too Much”
Meh, so she calls herself “God.” Still super cute poppy weekend vibes.
Courtney Love – “Miss Narcissist”
I mean. Actually I take that back. I think what I mean when “I mean” is that I’m a giant Hole fan and I can’t tell if this is actually good. Will someone else weigh in?
Cultfever – “Youth”
A Brooklyn favorite of mine. Strong weekend vibes, solid guitar and synth lines.
Night Beds – “Tide Teeth”
If I were taking a late night drive anytime this week this is what I’d put on. It’s essentially folk and B and it’s really soothing.
Class Actress – “More Than You”
First new Class Actress since 2011’s incredible Rapprocher. A bit bigger than what fans might be used to, but with familiar and more mature sentiments.
Bad Bad Hats – “Shame”
Indie rock outfit from Minneapolis laying down some really good indie rock. When I walk next door to get a coffee in ten minutes I hope this is playing.
Mourn – “Gertrudis, Get Through This”
If I could be in any band right now it’d probably be Mourn. A gang of four teenage punk rockers from Barcelona, like fuck me, right?
MUNA – “So Special”
Submission success of the week. I found this little pop gem in my inbox and it features an LA-based queer girl pop trip. Check it out.
