If you like your ladies kicking ass (and, really, who doesn’t?) then the coming months will give you two female-fronted action films to choose from. Granted, two doesn’t seem like a lot compared to the myriad of macho muscle flicks out there. But when the leads are action Angie and pistol-packing Milla, you can make a case for quality over quantity.
New trailers for Angelina Jolie‘s action thriller Salt and Milla Jovovich latest Resident Evil: Afterlife have just been released. In Salt, Angelina plays Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer who gets accused of being a sleeper Russian spy. Have I mentioned Angie kicks some ass? Like, a lot of it.
So many things are happening: car crashes, motorcycle chases, jumps onto moving vehicles, hair dye, putty facemasks, guns, guns, guns and a little dog, too! Though, the biggest question is black Angie or blonde Angie?
Angelina already has an excellent action pedigree from the Tomb Raider movies to Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Wanted. I guess when you look this good carrying a gun, it’s bound to happen. But what makes her role in Salt even more unique is that the film was originally based on a script called Edwin A. Salt and Tom Cruise was attached to star. Then he dropped out and Angelina stepped in and the gender got flipped. Neat trick, let’s do that with the Mission: Impossible films, too.
Up next is Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth sequel in the apocalyptic zombie franchise. Milla is back as Alice and Ali Larter is back as fellow survivor Claire. Oh, and the zombies are back, but this time in 3-D.
You have to admire Milla’s tenacity — she just keeps kicking the crap out of those zombies and zombie Dobermans. Though, I’m particularly pleased that she’d doing it alongside Ali. They make a nice couple, all wet and packing. What? The gun, people, the gun.
Also, was I was seeing double or were there two Alices at one point? That’s fine by me because the lady, like Angelina, knows how to handle her weapons.
