Patricia Cornwell’s Scarpetta series film adaptation moves forward

The Hollywood Reporter‘s Risky Business blog announced that Kerry Williamson is adapting out lesbian author Patricia Cornwell‘s Dr. Kay Scarpetta novel series — and none other than Angelina Jolie will play the famous medical examiner. Although we already knew Angelina was starring in the films, Williamson has just now signed on to pen the scripts.

Williamson has previously worked on Collateral Damage and the upcoming Fork in the Road, but adapting the Cornwell series will be a serious undertaking. There are currently 17 novels in the series, so this could mean an entire film franchise for Cornwell and Jolie. Fox 2000 owns the rights, so it’ll be up to them whether there will be just one film or several, though the Reporter says that the script will not draw from only one of the novel’s plots, but from several of them for the first film.

OK, so now that we have someone to adapt the books, let’s get this thing going. I can’t wait to see Angelina in a lab coat. Meanwhile, I’m hoping that Cornwell is working on a hot new lesbian scene in a Scarpetta novel that will be released in the near future, which should definitely be added to the script.
