Morning Brew – Ellen DeGeneres shuts down divorce rumors

Good morning! Happy Friday!

Will I see you at LA Pride this weekend? Specifically tomorrow at Dyke Day. Lez do this.

If you’ve been following the story of Jeremy Jordan’s gay cousin Sarah, she has been released from the ex-gay boarding facility she was sent to. No word on if she found a girlfriend inside.

Heartlight Ministries, where Sarah was been staying, has also released this statement, which gave me icky chills:

Sarah’s mom also spoke to the Austin American-Statesman saying Sarah was not there to be cured of the gay but seeking “help her with issues of depression, self-harm, drug use, and behavioral issues.”

I Love Dick is shooting right now in Marfa, Texas.

Just in time for the weekend! We can all now listen to the debut from supergroup case/lang/veirs.

If Sarah Paulson were your girlfriend, you’d always take your makeup off before going to bed. In fact, you’d take each other’s makeup off. As you softly wiped her face with a high-end cleanser, she’d say, ‘everything is so easy with you.'”

Holland Taylor has joined the cast of Broadway’s revival of The Front Page.

How LGBT rights have evolved under President Obama.

Kobe Bryant will serve as executive producer on In Silence, a new film from writer Whitney Davis which is described as such:

When a visual artist retreats to a secluded house with her girlfriend to overcome a creative block, she puts their relationship through a trying range of emotional experiences is the hopes of being inspired.

We all wanted Alex Mack to be queer.

A lesbian chef in Charlotte, North Carolina was attacked by two 17-year-old women with “hate in their eyes.” The details are pretty horrific.

Outfest has announced its killer line-up for July and Clea DuVall‘s The Intervention will be the opening night film. Also relevant to our interests: Almost Adults, AWOL, Blush, Bruises for Besos, Love, Suicide Kale, Summertime, Women Who Kill and Southwest of Salem, among many others!

Gemma Whelan, who plays Yara Greyjoy on Game of Thrones, said she had “no idea” her character was into women.

“I reckon she’s any way. I don’t think she’d limit herself to one or another. Anything goes. Get the job done with whatever if fun and interesting.”

Are you following HERSTORY yet on Instagram?

James Franco explains his inspiration for the Lifetime remake of Mother May I Sleep With Danger?

“We would keep the gorgeous lover and the over-protective mother, but now the couple would be two young lesbians, and the jealous boyfriend from the original would be a tortured young vampire. The mother’s skepticism of her daughter’s lover could now be folded into homophobic prejudice, which in turn could be tied up with vampirism.”

Ellen talked about her childhood and other personal things with Parade. This is her talking about rumors surrounding her marriage to Portia:

“I don’t pay attention [to rumors]. But we’ve been followed recently by the paparazzi, and we found out it’s because there’s a story out there that we’re getting divorced. We don’t know why. We’re together all the time. We genuinely love each other. Her happiness is my happiness, and vice versa. True love is caring more about the other person’s happiness than your own.”
