Talking with filmmakers and stars of Outfest shorts for All-Girl Friday

Today is All Girl Friday at Outfest, and along with the Los Angeles premiere of Jamie Babbit‘s Addicted to Fresno, there are several great short film selections worth seeing. We spoke with some of the filmmakers and stars while Outfest’s opening night and rest assured that if you aren’t in L.A. today, you can watch for these titles to make their way to a film festival near you.

MA/DDY, written/directed by Devon Kirkpatrick, stars Mel Shimkovitz and Clea DuVall in a story about a queer widow who is pregnant with her deceased’s partner’s child. We chatted with Devon, Mel and producer Christine Treibel about the idea behind the film and if we could ever see it feature length.

The First Session, written by and starring Fawzia Mirza, has a very interesting twist on two women’s first date. We talked with Fawzia about representing for queer brown women and collaborating with director Ryan Logan.

Anna Margarita Abelo was so inspired by Blue is the Warmest Color that she created a short film, Vagina is the Warmest Color. We spoke with the filmmaker about recreating that infamous sex scene.
