The film adaptation of The Humbling played at Venice and the Toronto Film Festivals this month and reviews have been mixed. We finally get a look at the movie, based on a Philip Roth novel, which has Greta Gerwig playing a lesbian who falls in love with an aging, bordering-on-senile actor, played by Al Pacino. It looks like it departs from the book in many ways, but is likely still portrayed from a very straight male point of view.
International distribution rights have already been purchased for the film, so it’s likely The Humbling, for better or for worse, will be in theaters worldwide in the next year.
