The Cliks ready new album

Canadian band The Cliks have been touring non-stop since the release of their album Snakehouse in 2007. On their down time (or what they’ve been able to have of it) has been dedicated to the recording of their follow-up CD, Dirty King, which finally has a release date of June 23.

The Cliks, a group comprised of trans-frontman Lucas Silveira and queer bandmates Morgan Doctor and Jen Benton have been in the studio with producer Sylvia Massy who has worked with several notable artists including Prince and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Silveira told Canada’s Xtra that Dirty King will be more personal material about his life and also “a departure from Snakehouse‘s rock-heavy riffs.” With Massy at the helm, hopefully some of the Prince-esque funk will make its way onto the album like it did on some of Snakehouse‘s tracks, including the sexy over of Justin Timberlake‘s “Cry Me a River.”

The Cliks will be playing their new material in select U.S. cities in April, so if you’re interested in hearing what they’ve been developing and live in Phoenix, Boston, New York and Detroit, check them out and let us know what we have to look forward to this summer.
