Rosie unplugged

In an interview this week on Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer, Rosie O’Donnell said she’s out of the blogging business.

“I started [the blog] four years ago,” she said on the Sirius/XM radio show, “as a way, when I was off the air for two years, to place myself in the public lexicon.”

“It was a wonderful, creative way for me to have an outlet to express myself. [But] it got bigger and bigger to the point where whatever I would say or do would end up as a sound bites on one of the entertainment shows in the evening. It became more of a drain than an inspiration.”

She went on to say that she will miss the day-to-day contact with real people that she had via the blog, but she needs to get back to just living her life.

Last summer, Rosie took a month off to re-evaluate whether she wanted to blog, and then decided to continue. But some of her last posts give the impression that this break may be permanent.

Before Christmas, she wrote:

the blog has served me

for many years now

and I have done all I wanted to

with it

feeling fine in 09

is my new motto

Then on Jan. 1, she posted this:

this year

unplugged

see what happened

on we go

peace out

and in

The r blog has defaulted to O’Donnell’s “Rosie Broadway Kids” charity since her live TV variety show was poorly received.

A link on the RBC site, however, does go back to rosie.com, where a new message promotes America, a Lifetime movie about the foster-care system, which O’Donnell produced and stars in.

Some people thought Rosie’s blog was loony, but I liked it. While her style took some getting used to, she was always funny and honest – and occasionally raw. Something about how her random thoughts and poetry all came together made me feel like she was making a real connection with her readers. For a celebrity, that’s a rarity. I will miss her, although I know not everyone will.

How about you? Will you miss Rosie’s blog? What would you like to see next from Ro?
