’s Next Big Thing: Live Hart, Zorya, Heather Green, Beth Colgrove and Tarah Who?

I was blown away by the amazing submissions I have received from talented musicians across the globe. Please keep them coming. If you are not a musician yourself but know of any who fit the bill, help spread the word. I’ve received emails from many artists who heard about the project through friends or fans. If you have submitted your info and do not see your name in this week’s column, please do not be discouraged. You may show up in a future column.

There are so many talented musicians out there, who just need an audience, and there is nothing better than the AfterEllen audience! Here are just a few solo artists and bands that may just be, the next big thing.

Live Hart (Orlando, Florida)

Live Hart infuses R&B, pop and alternative into a style she refers to as Acoustic Soul. Jazzy, mellow and incredibly melodic, her songs have a delicious groove. Live started her career as a member of the R&B/Pop group Urbanesque, but she seems to have really found her voice through her solo endeavors. An accomplished songwriter, she has also written music for other artists. She is currently working on her first full-length album. Her single “Please Don’t Say it’s Over” is available on iTunes and its accompanying video is on Youtube.

Zorya (Columbia, MO)

Named after Goddesses from Slavic mythology, Zorya is made up of sisters Violet and Tara Vonder Haar and Phylshawn Johnson. Violet and Phylshawn, also solo artists, are fixtures on the Columbia music scene. They have worked on numerous projects together and also happen to be partners in life. Zorya is folksy, blending bluegrass style with lilting harmonies. Toe tapping is likely to ensue. You can purchase Zorya’s album The Nation of Love on their website.
