Afternoon Delight: Lady Gaga continues awesome streak, Mississippi teens continue to fight for equality

It’s impossible to choose the very best thing Lady Gaga says in a twenty four-hour news cycle. I think I’m going to stop trying. I think I’m just going to start collecting all the things she says until I have a Gaga Quote Book as big as the Bible. Here are my two favorites today, from the Rolling Stone interview Trish Bendix told you about in The Brew.

On her new album, which will feature more politically-charged songs: “Why are we still talking about ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell?’ It’s like, what f–king year is it? It makes me crazy!”

“When I wake up in the morning, I feel just like any other insecure 24-year-old girl. Then I say, ‘Bitch, you’re Lady Gaga, you get up and walk the walk today.’ “

This week, CNN’s “Gay in America” segment features Constance McMillen and Ceara Sturgis, both of whom were victims of intense homophobia last school year. McMillen’s story is the more familiar of the two by now, but Ceara’s is just as heartbreaking. She talked to Soledad O’Brien about being left out of her yearbook because she wore a tux in her senior photo.

Yesterday, The Linster shared some thoughts on ABC Family’s new drama, Huge – including her hope that we’d see some lesbian-friendly content. Today, Nikky Blonsky spoke to Frisky.com about just that:

How will Huge deal with sexual orientation?

My character, because she wears all boys’ clothes, is called “gay.” She goes through this whole episode of asking her friend, “Do I seem gay to you?” It never even crossed her mind that because she wore boys’ clothes – they were just comfortable to her! – she didn’t think that it would have anything to do with her sexual preference. But then [being called gay] led her to question herself. That was really cool to play, somebody questioning their sexuality based on what they wear.

Blonsky is also featured in this week’s People (the “50 Most Amazing Bodies” issue with Zac Effron’s pecs on the cover): “Being a plus-sized girl, I’ve been told, “In order to get roles, you’ve got to lose weight.” I’m like, “Not if you’ve got what you’ve got and can work it!”

Oh, speaking of ABC Family, I hear there’s going to be some Emily and Maya snogging on tonight’s episode of Pretty Little Liars! Here’s a teaser clip to get you hyped up. (Tonight’s drinking game: Drink every time Maya touches Emily just because she can.)

Tonight’s episode of WEtv’s Women Behind Bars tackles the case of 17 year old lesbian Jocelyn Cantu. For more information, check out wetv.com.

Kristen Bell is in talks to star alongside Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski (comedy dream team triumvirate!) in the upcoming nature/rom-com Whales, about a Greenpeace team and a reporter who work together against the Cold War to save a family of whales trapped below ice.

You know what movie is not happening, though? That Heroes wrap-up you were hoping would send Claire and Gretchen into Happily Ever After. Creator Tim Kring told EW: “Movies sometimes need a little distance from the television show.” Translation: People still haven’t forgotten how bad it got.

Today’s Afternoon Delight is brought to you by Holly Marie Combs. You remember her from Charmed and Picket Fences, and now she’s a MILF on Pretty Little Liars. (You’re welcome, Emma!)
