Disney’s double standard

Disneyland and Disney World have often shown themselves to be very gay-friendly (their annual Gay Day events draw hundreds of thousands of queer folks to the Magic Kingdom), but it turns out they have a double standard in effect when it comes to their lucrative business in weddings. AfterElton.com recently discovered that neither the Florida nor California Disney resorts will host same-sex weddings, and their reasoning for the discrimination is foggy at best. But you know what’s even worse? At Disneyland, same-sex commitment ceremonies are allowed, but they cannot be held at the Rose Court Garden — only heterosexual weddings can take place at this apparently sacred straight space.

What’s the deal, Disney? This is so separate-but-unequal. Go here for AfterElton.com editor Michael Jensen’s take on the issue.
