Break out the champagne because it only took three days to score our first conversion of 2010. That’s right, Kristen Bell is going lesbian. OK, more accurately, she said she is “99 percent sure” she is going gay thanks to her new film, Burlesque. I have to take her at her word; one of my resolutions was to be more trusting.
The New York Post quotes the Heroes and Veronica Mars star as saying that thanks to her co-stars Cher and Christina Aguilera: “I have never felt so much good female energy around me. I find that I can’t take my eyes off them. I’m 99 percent sure I will leave this movie a lesbian.”
I’m not so good with the math, but 99 percent seems like pretty good odds for our team. So high fives all around, ladies. Fine, maybe we should put the congratulatory toaster oven on hold. But, regardless, it’s nice to hear a female star lavish so much praise (and a little lust) on her female costars. It’s a refreshing alternative to the tired, often false, talk of cat fights that tends to dominate the gossip around female casts.
The film, which is currently in production, is a musical following a “small-town girl with a big voice” played by Christina (in her feature film debut) who comes to Los Angeles and gets a job at a burlesque club. There she is mentored by Cher’s character, a former dancer, and clashes with another dancer, played by Kristen. Singer and Dancing with the Stars performer Julianne Hough also stars as a dancer who befriends Christina.
Well, I have to agree with Kristen. If I was surrounded by that much “good female energy,” I’d certainly turn gay as well. Oh, wait. Well, practice makes perfect.
